Birds usually eat a mixture of seeds and other ingredients that you find in pet stores. There are many variations, suitable for birds of all sizes. Some foods have fun shapes and bright colors to make them look more appetizing. Don't feel like spending too much on small packages? Or do you just want to give space to your creativity? No matter what the motivation is to push yourself, you could prepare food for your birds yourself. This article will teach you how.
Steps
Step 1. The first thing to do is get yourself a bowl to pour the ingredients into
The size depends on how much food you want to prepare.
Step 2. Pour a few sunflower seeds into the bowl
Don't put too many: large amounts of sunflower seeds are not healthy for birds. Half a cup should suffice. If, on the other hand, you are preparing food in larger quantities, a whole cup will be perfect.
Step 3. Add a cup of walnuts and peanuts
If your baby bird is small in size, crack the peanut shell and add only the fruit inside.
Step 4. Add half a cup of dried fruit
Step 5. Add a tablespoon of dried corn kernels
Step 6. Mix the ingredients with a wooden ladle until everything is well blended and stirred
Step 7. Serve a portion to your bird and place the rest in a tightly sealed container
Place the container in a cool, dry place.
Advice
- If you are preparing large quantities of food, double the ingredients mentioned above.
- Add smaller pieces for birds like Budgies and Sun Conures. Add larger pieces for large birds like Scarlet Macaws and Yellow-blue Macaws instead.
- To make sure your bird is okay, add some store-bought food to the mixture from time to time.
- Give your bird some fresh fruit, pasta or bread from time to time. These are foods that are well suited to their diet and, in addition, birds appreciate them a lot.
