If you have a kitten, sooner or later it becomes inevitable to give him the first bath. This experience can be quite traumatic for the animal but, by reading the advice contained in this article, you should be able to put it at ease and not have any problems.
Steps
Step 1. Fill the bathtub or sink with 2.5-5 cm of hot water (if the depth of the water scares the kitten, let it drain a little)
Step 2. Place a towel on the bottom of the tub or sink to allow the kitten to hold on well with its nails and prevent it from slipping
Step 3. Running the water from the tap could scare the kitten, so keep a cup full of water handy to wet and rinse it
Step 4. Use a cat specific shampoo
Step 5. Take the kitten, take him to the bathroom and close the door
Step 6. Place the kitten in the tub and start moistening its fur
Give him a lot of pampering.
Step 7. If he gets scared, hold him by the scruff to calm him down
Step 8. After you have moistened his fur, use the shampoo
Step 9. After shampooing, rinse it thoroughly
Step 10. Take it out of the tub and dry it with a towel
Step 11. Use an electric blanket lined with a towel to keep it warm
Step 12. Brush the kitten once it is dry
Step 13. Give him a treat, so that he associates the bath experience with something pleasant
Step 14. Notes:
- Using an anti-tear shampoo is not recommended, as it could clog the animal's eye channels.
- Never use a shampoo or soap for men when washing an animal.
- Always consult your vet before using a flea shampoo.
Advice
- Before giving him a bath, let the kitten use his tub.
- If your cat's ears are dirty, clean them with a cloth designed specifically for cleaning pet ears.
- Never use a hairdryer to dry the kitten, as the hot air could harm its delicate skin.
- To avoid scratching, pry the kitten's claws with a clipper designed specifically for pet nails.
Warnings
- The kitten could drown if water gets into its nose.
- The kitten could drown if there is too much water in the tub or sink.
- If the operation goes too long, the kitten may try to escape.
