Nowadays, the pin-up look of the 1940s-1960s is making a comeback. With the likes of Kim Falcon, Sabina Kelley, Cherry Dollface and Dita von Teese, who wouldn't want to reproduce this trick? The following article will tell you how to create the most basic of pin-up makeup.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Applying Primer and Foundation
Step 1. To begin, your face should be fresh and clean
Wash it with warm water and detergent, then rinse it with cold water. Gently pat it dry with a soft, clean towel.
Apply a toner and moisturizer. The tonic allows you to rebalance the natural pH of the skin and close the pores, while the cream moisturizes it. Soak a cotton ball in toner and pat it on your face, avoiding your eyes and lips. Then, apply a thin layer of moisturizer, making sure you massage it well and don't get it in the eye area. Wait a few seconds for it to absorb into the skin and dry
Step 2. Apply a primer to make sure the makeup has a solid foundation
It allows you to refine the pores, making the skin visibly smooth and soft. It also allows the foundation to last longer. Just tap it on your face and blend it: use little.
Step 3. Apply foundation
You can use either a liquid or a powder, the important thing is to make sure it matches your skin tone perfectly. Blend it well, especially on the edges of the face and on the jaw: no noticeable lines should form, otherwise it will look like you are wearing a mask.
Step 4. Use concealer to remedy blemishes and dark circles
Pin-up and rockabilly models were known for having a perfect complexion, so if you have skin blemishes, you need to correct them with a special product. Just tap it on the imperfection, then blend it gently on the edges to blend it with the foundation using a brush or sponge. If you use a colored concealer to hide discoloration, layer it with one of the same color as the foundation. Here are some tips on how to choose the right concealer shade:
- If you need to correct redness, such as pimples, use a green concealer.
- If you have fair skin and want to hide dark circles, dab some peach or pink concealer.
- If you have olive or medium skin and want to correct dark circles, go for a yellow concealer instead.
Step 5. You could turn a pimple into a mole
In addition to hiding it with the concealer, it is possible to intervene in this way: many pin-up models had a mole on their face. Dab black or dark brown liquid eyeliner on the blemish. Try to get as smooth a result as possible, but don't make the mole too big.
Step 6. Apply some powder using a brush with large, soft bristles
Roll it over the powder and gently beat it to remove excess powder. Apply it lightly to your face, focusing on your nose, forehead and cheeks. It will fix the makeup and prevent the skin from shining.
Part 2 of 4: Eye Makeup
Step 1. If necessary, shape your eyebrows
Pin-up and rockabilly models were famous for their defined, arched brows. If you haven't shaved them for a while, now is the time to do it with wax or tweezers, at home or at the beautician.
Step 2. Shape your brows
You can use an eyebrow pencil, eyeshadow or brow kit. Make sure you follow the natural arch and lighten the stroke as you move away from the nose so that the eyebrow tapers gradually. This way, they will look more defined and draw attention to the eyes, a key part of the pin-up or rockabilly look. However, you don't have to darken them too much: instead, try these tips on how to find the right shade:
- If you have light eyebrows, they should be one tone darker than your hair color.
- If you have dark brows, they should be a shade lighter than your hair color. Never use black.
- If your skin has a cool undertone, use a basically ashy color.
- If your skin has a warm undertone, use a gold-based color.
Step 3. Apply beige eyeshadow on the mobile lid
With a soft brush, blend the eyeshadow into the crease of the eye, moving towards the browbone.
Step 4. Apply dark brown eyeshadow in the crease of the eye with a thin brush
Lower your eyelid and move it along the crease. Blend it with an angled blending brush.
For more defined eyes, apply an even darker brown eyeshadow to the outer crease, which is the corner of the eye. Blends well
Step 5. Apply a light eyeshadow along the brow bone
You can use any one, for example white, ivory or champagne. It is used to illuminate the area. Apply it gently with a soft brush - you just have to trace the outline, so don't use too much product.
Step 6. Try to curl your lashes
It's not necessary, but it can open your eyes, especially if you naturally have straight lashes. Open the eyelash curler and place it at the base of the lashes. Squeeze it to close it and hold it in this position for three seconds. Open it and slide it towards the center of the lashes. Close it again for another three seconds and reopen it. Finally, curl the tips of your lashes, again holding it closed for three seconds.
Do not keep the curler closed for more than three seconds, or you will bend them too much
Step 7. Apply black eyeliner to the lash line and extend it beyond the outer corner of the eye
You can use a felt-tipped eyeliner or a gel eyeliner, to be applied with a special brush. When you reach the outer corner of the eye, create an upward tail. Do not extend it too much and make it at the right height - it must look like the natural continuation of the upper lashes when you open your eyes.
Step 8. Apply black volumizing and lengthening mascara
First, apply the volumizer. Once dry, swipe with the lengthener on the tips of the lashes. So they will be beautiful and thick. To apply it, dip the brush into the tube; before taking it out, rotate it around the edge to eliminate excess product. Bring the brush to the base of your lashes and apply it in an upward zigzag motion, blinking your eyelid as you go.
If you use false eyelashes, do just one swipe with a classic mascara
Part 3 of 4: Put on False Eyelashes
Step 1. You could put on false eyelashes
Eyes are key to doing good pin-up or rockabilly makeup, so if you really want to make them stand out, you can draw attention to the look with this product. However, keep in mind that applying them can be difficult at first and take a lot of practice. Don't be discouraged, though - the end result will be worth all your efforts.
Step 2. Remove the false lashes from the package
Detach them from the plastic case and wipe off any excess glue. Handle them with great care: they are delicate and can break easily.
Step 3. Measure the length of the false lashes by bringing them closer to the eye
Place them on the actual lash line. If they are too long and go beyond the natural line, you need to cut them. You can do this by trimming the excess off the outer edge of the false lashes with a sharp, clean pair of scissors.
Step 4. Apply glue to one of the strips, focusing on the inner and outer edge
If you have a steady hand, you can create a thin line of glue directly on the back of the false lashes. If not, squeeze a drop of glue onto the package and gently slide the strip over it. For now, don't apply glue to the other strip.
Step 5. Wait for the glue to dry slightly
While waiting, hold the lashes between your fingers and curl them into a C shape. This will facilitate application.
Step 6. Put on the false eyelashes
Once the glue starts to go clear, you can apply them. Place them on your eye and slowly begin to fix them on the mobile eyelid. If you have very curled lashes, you have to put the strip behind them creating a kind of curve. Place them right at the natural lash line.
Step 7. If necessary, keep them still
If you have curled your false lashes enough, they should sit smoothly on the curve of your eyelid. If you haven't folded them enough, you need to keep them in the right position while the glue finishes drying. Make sure your hands are clean, then press on the corners of your lashes. As you do this, it can help to look down.
Step 8. Repeat the process with the other strip
Once the false eyelash glue has dried, repeat the entire procedure on the other eye.
Step 9. Apply more mascara, but only once the glue has dried
Swipe lightly under the lashes. This helps you to fix the fake ones even more.
Part 4 of 4: Apply Lipstick and Blush
Step 1. Apply lip balm or lip balm and let it absorb
It will smooth your lips, making them visibly plumper. Wait about five to ten minutes before applying the pencil. If there are any residual lip balm or lip balm, pat them gently with a tissue.
Step 2. Choose the right red lipstick
You need a brilliant one. If you want an authentic look, use a glossy one: in the rockabilly era, there were no matte lipsticks. Avoid pearlescent or glittery ones.
Step 3. Apply a red pencil of the same color as the lipstick
Draw the outline of the lips, then apply it inside. It allows you to create a base to facilitate the application of the lipstick and improve its duration. Also, it has a similar function to lip stains, so even if the lipstick fades during the day, it won't be noticeable and the color won't go away entirely.
Step 4. Apply red lipstick
It is preferable to use a special brush to get a precise and defined result (if you don't have it, you can apply it directly from the tube, but the effect will not be the same), just like the one that often had pin-up or rockabilly models.
Step 5. Dab the lipstick to set it
Fold a handkerchief in half and place it between your lips to remove excess lipstick. You can reapply it and dab the handkerchief a second time for an even more intense color.
Step 6. Set the lipstick by placing a tissue over your lips and applying loose powder
It will thus be more lasting. You simply have to divide the veils of the handkerchief. Place one on your lips and apply loose powder through the handkerchief using a brush with large, soft bristles.
Step 7. Don't overdo the blush
Pin-up or rockabilly makeup focused mainly on the eyes and lips, so blush should be used sparingly and carefully. Choose a pink or peach one and apply it on the cheeks. Use enough to have a healthy, glowing complexion.
Step 8. Apply a final coat of powder or lightly mist a setting spray
It is not necessary to complete a pin-up or rockabilly look, but it helps to make the makeup last longer.
Step 9. Finished
