Waxing at a beauty salon can be expensive, plus you may have to wait a long time waiting for your appointment. Fortunately, there is a workaround to get rid of those pesky hairs in the comfort of your own home. You will save time, money and you will be free to give your eyebrows the shape you want. All it takes is a few simple ingredients and no more than 30 minutes.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Prepare the Wax
Step 1. Get the ingredients for waxing
The advantage of this recipe is that it requires ingredients that are present in all kitchens. In fact, only honey, salt, water and flour are needed.
Step 2. Blend the ingredients in a small microwave-safe bowl
Measure the honey, salt, water and flour in equal parts. Since you only need to pluck your eyebrows, 2-3 tablespoons (30-45 g) of each ingredient will suffice.
Step 3. Mix the ingredients by mixing
You will get a yellowish mixture that is apparently too liquid, but you don't have to worry: in the following steps you will have to heat it and at that point it will thicken considerably.
Step 4. Heat the wax in the microwave for 20-30 seconds
Don't lose sight of it until it starts to boil. At that point the wax will be ready and you can remove the bowl from the microwave.
The wax will be hot, so be careful
Step 5. Let the wax sit for 10 minutes
You have to let it cool down or you will burn your skin. During this time, it will thicken further and after 10 minutes it will be firm and sticky enough.
Part 2 of 3: Apply the Wax
Step 1. Wash your face with a mild cleanser
Before starting, it is important to remove dirt and oil from the skin and eyebrows. Only with completely clean skin will you be sure that you will be able to remove all unwanted hair.
Step 2. Apply wax to unwanted hair
Spread it out very neatly using a cotton swab, spoon, or popsicle stick. Fully coat the hairs to be removed. Concentrate and pay attention because it is a complicated task. Make sure the wax doesn't end up on the hair you don't want to pluck.
Step 3. Press the wax onto your eyebrows using a small piece of fabric
You can cut an old cloth or a clean rag. Run your fingers over the fabric in the direction of hair growth and leave the wax on for 15 minutes.
You can also use a whole cloth or rag, but it is much more convenient to cut it into thin strips
Part 3 of 3: Remove the Wax
Step 1. Quickly tear off the piece of fabric
Pull it firmly against the grain (in the opposite direction to where the hairs grow). This means that to depilate the left eyebrow, you will have to pull it from left to right, while to depilate the right eyebrow, you will have to pull from right to left.
- You will feel some pain. Imagine having to tear off a particularly sticky patch.
- Do not hesitate when plucking, otherwise some hairs may stick and it will hurt you more.
Step 2. Dampen a clean cloth with warm water
Press it gently on the depilated area to prevent possible irritation.
If your skin is swollen or red, apply a moisturizer or vitamin E body lotion. Symptoms will soon fade
Step 3. Check for any unwanted hair left
Waxing should have pulled out most of the unwanted hair. If there are a few left, simply use tweezers to remove them.
Advice
- Set the timer to calculate the shutter speed accurately.
- Make sure you've only waxed the hair you want to remove.
- Check more than once that you only have waxed where it is needed. If you are not completely sure, it is best to consult a professional.
- Quickly tear off the strip of fabric to feel as little pain as possible, then apply a warm compress to the shaved area to relieve swelling and redness.
