It can be difficult to grow long and beautiful nails, as they all grow at the same rate, about one millimeter per month. What you can do is protect them, treat them in the most appropriate way and make them appear longer than they are. These steps are pretty simple, thankfully. Read on to find out how!
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Making Nails Look Longer
Step 1. Wash your hands with a mild soap
Strong soap can make your nails brittle.
Step 2. Blot your hands with a towel
Step 3. Fill a plastic basin with enough vinegar to cover the nails
Step 4. Soak your nails (one hand at a time) in the vinegar for 3-5 minutes, while the other hand holds the bowl in place
Step 5. Remove your hands from the vinegar and dry them with a paper towel or dish towel
Step 6. Wash your hands in soap and water to remove the vinegar odor
Step 7. Push the cuticles back gently and file the nails if necessary
Don't cut your cuticles. Doctors recommend not doing this for several reasons. First, cutting the cuticles can lead to infections, which could hamper the growth of the nails. Second, cuticles tend to grow back, and pushing them back makes them temporarily appear smaller
Step 8. You can also use a hand antibacterial once finished
Leave it on for 4 minutes and then rinse it off.
Part 2 of 4: Strategies for Not Biting Your Nails
Step 1. Apply two coats of hardener nail polish
Step 2. Wait two hours and then apply another coat of hardener enamel
Step 3. Check that the polish is even and free of lumps
Also, if the polish comes off suddenly or forcibly, it could ruin your nails, and that's not a very nice thing.
If you bite your nails, try this method. When you are about to eat them think about what they will be like once you have done so, disgusting
Step 4. When you feel the urge to bite your nails, try eating a butt
You can't bite your nails if you're already chewing on something else!
Step 5. Put some lemon juice on your nails
It's another way to stop yourself from eating them. Take a bowl and put some lemon juice in it. Dip your fingertips into the bowl. Let it dry. When you want to bite your nails, you will feel the sour taste of lemon.
Step 6. Put on gloves while watching TV
If you often find yourself biting your nails without thinking about it, biting into something else could be a deterrent.
Step 7. If you are an anxious person, find something else to keep your hands busy
Stress balls, irons, or even cleaning can help keep your hands busy.
Step 8. Get help from friends
If you bite your nails often, let others know about your intention to quit. Having a partner or friend pat you on the hand when you put it in your mouth will help you avoid doing so.
Step 9. Chew something else
This can help distract you from the thought of biting your nails. Whether it's gum or something else, having something in your mouth is a way to keep your nails out of the way.
Part 3 of 4: Understanding What Could Help Nail Growth
Step 1. Try biotin supplements to make your nails long and strong
Biotin is a supplement used for a variety of reasons, from diabetes to hair growth. Biotin is also effective in treating brittle nails, strengthening them and thus preventing them from breaking or flaking. Biotin is found in food, although it is sold in the form of a dietary supplement.
- Biotin will not always make nails grow faster or longer. There is no scientific evidence for this. What biotin does is make sure they break less often and are stronger. Nails that don't break have a better chance of growing longer.
-
The body absorbs very little natural biotin. However, it is found in many foods:
- Wheat germ
- Whole grains
- Wholemeal flour bread
- Eggs, animal products
- Hazelnuts
- Chard
- Salmon
- Chicken
Step 2. Moisturize your nails, especially in winter
By the time the nails leave the cuticle, they are already dead cells, so they won't repair themselves. This means you need to take care of it.
- Every time you wash your hands, put on a hand cream to prevent your nails from becoming too brittle, cracking or flaking.
- Wear gloves if you're outside in the winter. Use rubber gloves when cleaning or washing dishes, for example.
Step 3. Don't use nail polish remover too often
Every time you take off the nail polish, you weaken your nails. Apply nail polish once every two to three weeks, so you'll use less nail polish remover. You will get stronger nails.
Look for nail polish that lasts longer than a week. If you can't find it, look for one that you can go over when it crashes
Part 4 of 4: Myths About Nail Growth
Step 1. Constant activity stimulates growth because circulation increases
The myth arises here because pianists really have strong and long nails. Doctors say that while there is a possibility that increased circulation stimulates nail growth (but has not been proven), continued impact of the nails and fingertips on a surface means more broken or flaking nails, which means that they must be cut.
Step 2. Increasing protein intake stimulates regrowth
The myth here arises because nails are made of protein (keratin), and therefore by increasing the protein intake they could grow more. There is no evidence to support this thesis.
The truth is, a lack of protein will make your nails brittle and underdeveloped. But the difference between a normal protein and a high protein diet makes no difference to our nails
Step 3. Rubbing garlic on your nails makes them grow faster
The myth arises because garlic contains selenium, and its deficiency can lead to weak nails, so rubbing it on the nails will have the opposite effect. As you may have guessed, the argument is the same as the previous myth: if not having enough of something is not a good thing, having too much is good. The only problem is that the world doesn't always turn this way. Unfortunately, the garlic massage myth has no evidence to its advantage.
Advice
- For beautiful, soft hands, use a good moisturizer to avoid chapped or rough skin.
- When you grow your nails, file them and clean the underside. Dirt can accumulate there, turning them yellow.
- Maybe you use nail polish to not bite your nails, but remember to always use a transparent base and finish.
- If lemon juice doesn't work, try a rubber band. Whenever you want to bite your nails, snap the rubber band against your wrist. So you won't want to eat it anymore because you will associate it with a feeling of discomfort.
- Bitter nail polish also works. You put it on like regular nail polish, but when you bite your nails it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, so you don't do it anymore.
- Depending on the individual, nails may take more or less time to grow.
