Dandruff is a common problem that manifests itself with itching and flaking of the scalp. Since dandruff can be caused by yeasts or bacteria present on the skin, elements that need a specific pH to proliferate, the solution to eliminate the disorder could be to vary the pH of the scalp. One of the remedies is to use vinegar, which in addition to influencing the pH is able to relieve some of the itching caused by dandruff. Regularly applying vinegar to your scalp can be the right remedy to finally get rid of this embarrassing problem.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Use Diluted Vinegar for Mild Dandruff
Step 1. Wash your hair
Avoid shampoos and conditioners that contain harsh substances. You should use products that contain citrus or tea tree oil: two natural ingredients that do not deprive the hair of their protective oils.
Step 2. Apply a mixture of water and vinegar to clean hair
Prepare it using equal parts water and vinegar. Slowly pour the mixture into damp hair, taking care to protect your eyes. Pour some on your head and then massage it into your scalp before adding more and massaging again.
Step 3. Let the mixture sit on the skin for a few minutes
Leave the vinegar on so your scalp has time to absorb it. Don't worry, the vinegar smell will disappear after a careful rinse.
Step 4. Rinse your hair very carefully
You can apply the shampoo and conditioner again or simply rinse your hair and skin with plenty of warm water. Keep in mind that hot water alone may not be enough to make the vinegar smell disappear completely.
Step 5. Repeat the treatment every day until the dandruff is gone
It may take a few days before it visibly diminishes; use the vinegar on a regular basis and the results will come. Over time, the vinegar smell can be annoying, but it is worth resisting for a healthy scalp.
Method 2 of 2: Use Concentrated Vinegar for Severe Dandruff
Step 1. Get into the bathtub or shower
It is not necessary to wash your hair before applying the vinegar, but it is essential to carry out the treatment in a place that allows you to pour it freely without fear of damaging the surrounding surfaces. As a precaution it is best to take off your clothes so they don't get wet.
Step 2. Mix 60ml of apple cider vinegar with a few tablespoons of water in a small spray bottle or bowl
You could use it without diluting it, but it's risky if you have sensitive skin, and it could dry out your hair. The best choice is to dilute it slightly, to take advantage of all its benefits without the occurrence of side effects.
Step 3. Apply diluted vinegar directly to the scalp
Spray it directly on the skin or apply it using a few cotton balls. Remember to keep your eyes closed to protect them from vinegar.
Step 4. Massage the vinegar so that it penetrates the scalp
You have to make sure that it passes through the hair and is absorbed by the skin. Take the time to apply it evenly all over your head.
Step 5. Leave the vinegar on for about 20 minutes
Wrap a warm towel around your head to keep the vinegar in contact with your scalp and to contain the odor. By staying warm, the pores of the scalp will open, so the vinegar will be able to penetrate deeper.
Step 6. Rinse your hair very carefully
Since vinegar is concentrated, chances are you'll need to use shampoo and conditioner to remove the odor. Use only delicate products, preferably specially formulated for scalp care, for example those that contain tea tree oil.
Step 7. Repeat the vinegar treatment a few times a week
Concentrated vinegar can damage your hair, so don't use it every day. However, try to use it regularly to keep out the bacteria that cause dandruff.
