Learning how to create fluffy curls can come in handy on many occasions, even for Halloween or a costume party. It's a very cheap hairstyle, but it's also a bit laborious and time-consuming. To do this, you should get someone to help you curl the back of your head so you can get the job done faster. When you're done, you can flaunt it wherever you want.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Get the Supplies
Step 1. Buy or borrow U-shaped or bun hairpins
They are needed to create this hairstyle, so be sure to get them before you start. You can't use regular hairpins, you specifically need the U-shaped ones. They are about the same length as the classic ones, but they are wider and the sides do not touch.
- You can buy a pack at the supermarket or perfumery.
- You must have at least 25 bobby pins.
- They don't have to be wavy U-pins, but if you only have these, they'll still be fine.
Step 2. Use a temperature adjustable soleplate
For this hairstyle, you need to set a medium temperature, not a high one. This is necessary to avoid unnecessary damage to the hair.
- In general, the plate settings are 3: low temperature for dry or damaged hair (around 120-140 ° C), medium for normal hair (140-180 ° C) and high for thick or thick hair (200-230 ° C). C).
- If your hair is fine or damaged, you need to set the lowest temperature.
- You can buy a temperature-adjustable plate at any electronics store; those on offer can cost even less than 20 euros.
Step 3. Get a fine-toothed comb with a tail
It allows you to volumize the roots of the hair to make it more full-bodied and make it look fluffier.
Step 4. Use heat protection spray, hairspray or both
Since you need to protect your hair from the heat of the straightener, be sure to use a heat protector. Also, you need to fix them and make them more full-bodied with lacquer. These products are sometimes combined into one spray, so such a purchase would be more cost effective. In any case, you can also buy them separately.
You can buy them in perfumery or at the supermarket
Step 5. Use a brush
After you are done curling your hair, you can fluff it out with a quality wide bristle brush. If you don't have it, any one will do.
Step 6. Use hair tongs
Before you curl a section, you need to gather the rest of the hair so it doesn't bother you. You can use pliers or clips that can hold them in place. If you don't have any, a hair tie will do, so other strands won't get in your way.
Part 2 of 3: Getting Ready to Curl Your Hair
Step 1. Shampoo and conditioner
Wash your hair to remove excess oil, dirt and product buildup. If they are clean, it will be easier to do this hairstyle. Use conditioner to keep them soft and healthy.
- Pantene and other brands have lines of heat-protective shampoos and conditioners that you can use to protect your hair from plate heat.
- Apply the shampoo to the roots of the hair, while the conditioner only goes to the lengths and ends.
Step 2. Use the hair dryer to dry them evenly
Apply the heat shield and dry them until they are almost entirely smooth and completely dry. You don't have to worry about styling for now. You simply have to dry them before curling them.
If you don't use a hair dryer, you can pat them dry with a towel and let them air dry. By doing this, you allow for more time for the entire styling. Also, do not rest your head on the pillow before the procedure
Step 3. Apply a light hold mousse to your hair
After drying them, prepare them for styling with a mousse. This product allows you to fix the hairstyle without making it stiff.
- If your hair is short, use a tennis ball-sized amount of mousse; if they are long or thick, the size should be similar to that of a softball.
- Light hold mousses can be used for any hair type.
Part 3 of 3: Style your hair
Step 1. Part your hair
Gather the top section with pliers so that it doesn't bother you. Attach it to the top of your head so you can start working the bottom. You can divide your hair into 4 quadrants and curl one at a time.
If you don't have hair clips, you can use a rubber band. The important thing is to make sure they don't bother you
Step 2. Curl a 3x3cm section of hair
With the tail of the comb, gently separate a section of hair 3 cm long and 3 cm wide from the scalp. Hold it steady with one hand.
From now on, you will need to methodically work on the 4 quadrants of the head by curling strands of this size in each section
Step 3. Insert this section of hair into the U-shaped hairpin
Bring it as close as possible to the base of the head so that it almost touches the scalp. If you leave too much space between the hairpin and the head, you risk your hair losing volume.
Step 4. Wrap the hair around the bobby pin creating a zigzag pattern
Start at the base of the hairpin, which is located near the scalp. Make sure it is placed horizontally. Then, wrap your hair around the bobby pin from side to side in repetition 8s up to the edge.
- If there is any hair sticking out of the hairpin, don't worry. You will fix them with lacquer, so in the end they will not spoil the desired effect.
- The hair will create a zigzag pattern on the hairpin.
Step 5. Spray a heat protective hairspray on the hair
Make sure you apply it evenly on each side of the strands. You have to use it to protect them from the heat, but also to fix them and make them more full-bodied.
If you don't have a 2-in-1 product, apply the heat protector first, then the hairspray. Remember that the heat protection spray should be sprayed first as it must act directly on the barrel to protect it
Step 6. Straighten the hair that you have wrapped around the bobby pin
Set the soleplate to a medium-low temperature, which should be around 140 ° C. Close it at the bottom of the hairpin, which is the furthest end of the head. Then, move the plate towards the garment.
- Do not straighten your hair for more than 5 seconds at a time.
- If you have dry or damaged hair, you can set the straightener on a low temperature (around 80-120 ° C).
Step 7. Create another 3x3cm section and repeat the same steps
Curl the entire hair. You should proceed methodically in sections, or quadrants, creating 3x3cm strands all over the head. Depending on the amount of hair you have, the whole process can take 1-2 hours.
Ask someone to help you curl the back of your head
Step 8. Remove all bobby pins from your hair
After you have finished straightening all the strands, untie them. Gently pull the bobby pins from the base - they should come off easily.
Don't try to untangle the hair wrapped around the bobby pins
Step 9. Brush your hair to volumize it
Run the brush all over your hair to make it fluffy. Lower your head and bring your hair in front of you. Brush them for a voluminous effect.
- You can use a classic or wide-bristled brush to create volume. Do not use a round one.
- If you want to use a fine-toothed comb, you can backcomb the roots of your hair to make it more voluminous. Take 3 cm long strands that need volume and cotton. Comb from the central part to the roots to make them more full-bodied. Just remember that this process damages your hair.
Step 10. Spray hairspray all over your hair
Lower your head again, bring your hair in front of you and spray the product evenly over the entire head to set the fluffy curls you created. If you can get someone to help you, ask them to spray hairspray all over your hair while you are in this position.
