For Valentine's Day, a homemade card can show all your love and affection. By making the card yourself, you can include puns, add small gifts (like chocolates) and choose eye-catching decorations (such as ribbons and fabrics) to make the card more interesting.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Play with Words
Step 1. Create a tic-tac-toe grid
Instead of using circles, replace them with hearts. Draw a line of three hearts diagonally, vertically or horizontally on the grid. You can write something like: "You have won my heart!".
If your handwriting isn't great, you can use stencils to make the letters or you can print the words and then glue them onto the card
Step 2. Use the king or queen card
Take the king or queen from a deck of cards. Glue the card of your choice onto the cover of a blank card, then write "You are my queen" or "You are my king".
Choose cards in a color suitable for Valentine's Day, such as red or pink
Step 3. Use a maze
Go online and print a little maze. To respect the Valentine's Day theme, look for one in the shape of a heart. Paste it on the cover of a blank card, then write inside or under the maze: "I get lost in your eyes".
You can add other decorations on the cover of the card to make it more beautiful. For example, you can use a stencil or stickers to surround the maze with some hearts
Step 4. Use a stencil to draw a key on the card
Purchase a key stencil at a DIY store or just trace the outline of the house key. Draw the key on the cover of the card and color it red or pink, in the theme of Valentine's Day. Finally, write on the card: "You have the key to my heart".
Since some keys may not adhere perfectly to the sheet, it will be easier to use a stencil than house keys
Step 5. Use a stencil to draw puzzle pieces
Take two connected pieces of a puzzle and arrange them side by side on the sheet. Trace their outline with a pen or pencil. Color them red or pink, with a Valentine's Day theme. On the cover or inside the card, write something like "We complement each other!".
Method 2 of 3: Add Items to the Card
Step 1. Glue some treats to the card
Chocolates are usually the most traditional gift for Valentine's Day. Try arranging chocolates or other sweets on the sheet, still naturally wrapped, in the shape of letters. The recipient can then detach them and eat them.
For example, shape a heart with some chocolates, then write something like "I love you!" Inside
Step 2. Glue some candles to the card
Take a couple of small cake candles and glue them to the cover of a blank card. Draw hearts that sprout like flames from candles. Finally, write on the card a sentence such as: "You light up my life".
Choose candles in a suitable color for Valentine's Day
Step 3. Add a racing car
This is a great idea for young children who love to play with toy cars. Tape a toy car to the cover of a blank ticket, then write something on the inside like "When I see you, my heart goes as fast as a racing car!".
- You can add other decorations, such as skid marks starting from the back of the car.
- You can also stencil or glue hearts, cupid bows or other typical Valentine's decorations around the car.
Step 4. Glue magnetic letters to the card
Grab some magnetic letters, which you can find in many DIY stores and some hardware stores. Glue them to the card cover to form the recipient's name or initials.
- Choose colors suitable for Valentine's Day, such as red or pink.
- Add other decorations, such as hearts and cupid bows, to surround the letters.
Step 5. Tie toy animals to the card
This is a great idea for children who love nature. Print photos of animals found on the internet and glue them onto small rectangular pieces of paper. Next, drill a hole in one corner of the paper and use string to tie them to toy animals. Choose the same animal for each image. For example, tie a little plastic lion to a photo of a lion.
You can also write cute phrases on photos, such as "I roar of love for you!"
Method 3 of 3: Use Eye-catching Decorations
Step 1. Create a pop-up card
Take a piece of construction paper and fold it in half. Draw a small heart on the fold so that the fold forms a line in the center of the heart. At that point, draw another larger heart around the first one. Cut out both hearts, but don't detach them completely from the card. Avoid cutting a small section on the side of each heart so they both stick to the paper. Take a second card. Apply the glue stick along the edges of the first card, then glue it to the second, then fold the card in half. When you open it, both hearts should rise slightly from the paper.
To make your card even more beautiful, use paper with hearts, bows and arrows or other Valentine-themed decorations
Step 2. Paint a card with watercolors
If you are good at painting, get watercolors. Draw something on the cover of a blank card. You can make an abstract composition with Valentine's Day colors, then write a message when the paper has dried. Alternatively, draw Valentine's Day decorations, such as hearts or a bow and arrow. Once finished, let the card dry completely before adding any more decorations or words.
Step 3. Add felt hearts
With a few pieces of felt you can give your Valentine's card a fun and soft look. Buy some red and pink felt, then cut out some hearts. Stick them on the cover and front pages of your card.
A fun idea is to use the needle to thread a thread through a line of hearts. At that point, you can glue the ends of the thread onto the card and write something like: "You pierced my heart"
Step 4. Make a jar of hearts
Cut out hearts from red or pink construction paper. Use a stencil to draw an inverted jar in the top corner of the card, then glue the hearts. Place a couple inside the jar and others that go down to the bottom of the page. Between the hearts, add some letters as well, to form a message like "I love you".
Step 5. Glue a ribbon to the card
Ribbons can add a nice extra touch. You can add them to refine all the projects described in the article. For example, make a satin ribbon bow, then glue it to the bottom of a card that you want to further decorate.
Step 6. Add a glitter heart
Cut out a heart from construction paper. Cover it entirely with glue stick and then decorate it with glitter. Once dry, glue it to the card to make it more sparkly.
You can use glitter hearts on all of the above projects if you want to enrich the final result
