Steps
Part 1 of 3: Understanding What Values You
Step 1. First, look at the size of the clothes
They may be the coolest and coolest in the world, but if they don't fit you, you won't look the best. Clothes that are too small appear to be of poor quality, and give the impression that you are much fatter; those that are too large convey an idea of sloppiness.
- It can be difficult to find clothes of the right size: for many women, the upper body is more voluminous than the lower one, or vice versa. Generally, you realize that a dress looks good on you if the neckline always stays in place (whether you are sitting or standing), all the seams are flat and straight, the fabric does not pull or pucker in the area of the chest or hips, the fabric is snug, but not too tight.
- If you have recently gained or lost weight, it is especially important to discard or change clothes that no longer fit you. Take your time to go through the wardrobe and figure out what makes you look good or bad.
Step 2. Discover the most suitable methods to enhance your body
Each woman has a different body, and, within each category, there are also not indifferent variants. In principle, the physique can be in the shape of an apple, pear, banana or hourglass.
- Women with an apple-shaped body usually gain weight in the central area of the body. Generally, they are enhanced by A-line dresses, but also by those that highlight the chest and legs, distracting attention from the waist.
- Pear-shaped women are skinny down to the waist, while they tend to gain weight in the hips and thighs. Usually, they are enhanced by A-line dresses, layered sweaters, simple and dark skirts and trousers.
- Banana-shaped women are thin and usually look good with just about anything. However, they can highlight the body by wearing clothes that create curves. Flared trousers, waist-tight tops and shaped jackets help achieve this.
- Hourglass women have a slim waist, while hips and breasts are fuller. They look great with tailored dresses and wrap dresses.
Step 3. Determine which colors enhance you
Try looking at the veins that show under the skin of the wrist. Are they more green or blue?
- If they turn green, your skin has a yellow undertone. Warm colors look best on you, so sport creamy white, red, yellow, orange, brown, shades of green and blue with yellow undertones as well. Avoid pastel colors.
- If they turn blue, your skin has a pink undertone. Cool colors, such as white, pastel, ruby red, emerald green, etc. look best on you.
- When in doubt, you can always focus on predominantly neutral colors. Black, gray and brown look great on almost everyone. Add vibrant flashes here and there, like an electric blue necklace or a red belt, to make your combinations more interesting.
Step 4. Determine which parts of your body you don't like to show off
For example, if showing your legs or middle area makes you uncomfortable, keep this in mind when you go shopping; in that case, avoid buying mini-skirts or tight-fitting tops on the belly.
Step 5. Prefer classic clothes to trendy ones
It is more important to wear clothes that flatter you and make you look more beautiful than to follow all the trends that appear on the horizon. Forcing yourself to wear certain colors, cuts and styles just because fashion magazines have placed them on the cover won't make you look well dressed. Stick to what suits you.
Likewise, don't be too rigid about determining what suits you, otherwise you risk missing out on the opportunity to be daring and try something new. Be willing to experiment! You will be surprised at what a new style can offer you
Step 6. Consider convenience
Your attempts to value yourself will do no good if the shoes are so uncomfortable that they wobble or cause blisters, or the clothes are so tight that they force you to constantly pull or adjust them. Choose garments that make you feel great, and you'll pass it on to the outside too.
Step 7. Take proper care of your clothes
To wash them well, always read the labels and follow the instructions: this way, they will look like new for much longer.
Also, try to iron clothes that require it. Nobody looks good with wrinkled clothes on
Part 2 of 3: Developing a Personal Style
Step 1. Express yourself
There are particularly good choices for each personal style. If you have a girly style, you can wear dresses every day, otherwise choose pants that suit your body type. If you think you look more elegant, dress accordingly. Do you consider yourself bohemian? Idem. Authenticity makes you so much more attractive.
Step 2. Make the look more interesting by using the right accessories
Once you understand what values you, you can try to improve your appearance with choices that help you express your individuality.
- Do you like bright colors? Use them. To go to work, wear a black skirt and a quality cream-colored shirt, but add a pair of red spool-heeled shoes or a multicolored bracelet.
- If you love wearing jewels that stand out, choose one a day. Large hoop earrings can embellish a pair of jeans and a t-shirt; an important necklace can instantly make a simple outfit to go to work fabulous.
Step 3. Take a few minutes to browse fashion magazines or visit trending sites
The point is not to choose an image and emulate it. Instead, you need to get an idea of the wide variety of styles available and find inspiration. If you know that certain styles or colors punctually attract you, you will know what to look for: you just have to try to adapt everything you like to your body and your colors.
Step 4. Develop standard looks for the various contexts in your life
Having a repertoire of outfits that fit you well and fit your style will help. Try to organize a rotation with the looks that you will show off at work, on weekends, at elegant events or in any other context you participate in regularly. The approach you take in these situations will convey a lot more self-esteem.
Step 5. Dress appropriately for your age
Many find that women who dress as if they are much older or younger have a patchy or inadequate look. Whatever your age, accept it! Instead of going out of your way to look older or younger, try to look great for someone your age.
Step 6. Take calculated risks
It's best to avoid mixing crazy prints of various types and colors in a single outfit, but you can try something new and different. The key is to show it off with a certain ease.
- For example, try pairing neutral colors with an animal print item, such as a leopard print shirt under a black cardigan.
- Alternatively, you can try wearing a more risky and trendy item making the rest of the look definitely more discreet. If you love the huge straps seen at the latest shows, put them on! Just combine them with a pair of trousers or a simple and neutral skirt; avoid bold accessories.
Part 3 of 3: Upgrading the Wardrobe
Step 1. Clean out the closet
Get rid of anything that doesn't fit you, that you haven't worn for two years and that is in poor condition. This way, you will have some free space to introduce new and more functional pieces.
These clothes should not be thrown in the trash. You can give them to charity or give them away to friends and family. If they are in decent condition, try to sell them
Step 2. Determine what you need
After getting rid of all unnecessary clothes, you should make a clear and objective assessment of the wardrobe to understand what is missing. Your needs depend on your lifestyle; in principle, make sure you have:
- Casual shirts and sweaters.
- Elegant shirts.
- Pullover.
- Trousers; at least a pair of jeans and a more elegant pair.
- Informal clothes.
- Informal skirts.
- A fall coat (and a heavier one too, if you live in a place where it's very cold).
- At least a couple of semi-formal or formal dresses.
- Shoes; at least one pair for training and one or two pairs for informal, professional and elegant occasions.
Step 3. Make a plan
Now that you know what you need, go shopping! However, don't rush to the mall right away. You will save yourself time and headaches by doing an online search first. Check out the sites of some famous shops and see what they have to offer. If you don't notice anything to your liking, avoid them; prefer outlets that fit your style.
Step 4. Try on clothes whenever you get the chance
Sure you are tempted to buy everything with just one click, but you will be less likely to blunder by going straight to the shops that seem promising and trying on the clothes. Sizes vary considerably from store to store, and it's hard to know what values you if you don't watch a garment fall on your body.
Step 5. Spend your money wisely
If your budget is tight, start looking at low-cost outlets. You have no reason to waste: if a dress is well made and fits you perfectly, buy it and you won't have any nasty surprises. That said, you don't necessarily have to go looking for the cheapest clothes out there. If a garment falls apart after just two weeks of purchase or falls apart in the washing machine, you won't have a great deal.
- Do some more research online and buy during the sales. This allows you to choose well-made items at significantly lower prices.
- Try investing in a few key pieces that you can use for years and years, like a midi skirt to go to work or a classic black dress. Spend less on trendy items that you won't wear for long.
- Don't be afraid to do some comparison shopping. Before you buy something, check out the internet to find a shop that offers the same item at a lower price.
