Fleas are parasites that multiply rapidly if not treated properly. The main treatments for killing fleas and their larvae are extremely expensive. The reality is that we love our pets and want to keep them, but we would like to live without fleas. If your pet (dog or cat) has fleas, you can solve the problem in no time with dish soap.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Dogs

Step 1. Choose the right brand product

To wash dogs and other pets safely, you need the correct dish soap. In the United States, Dawn's cleaner appears to be the safest for pets and effective against fleas. Do some research online to find a similar solution in Italy as well.

Step 2. Prepare the bathroom

The only thing you need to do is prepare a warm (not hot!) Bath for your dog. Just use enough water and then put the dog in the tub or use an outdoor garden hose if necessary.

Step 3. Immerse the animal

Use the shower hose, a cup or the water hose / faucet to completely wet the animal in the water, taking care not to get the detergent into the eyes as it can irritate.

Step 4. Apply dish soap

Wash your dog with a lot of detergent. You need to spend a few minutes rubbing it, or even more, depending on the severity of the infestation. Proceed gently when washing, but you will need to scrub it well to get to the skin where the fleas are hiding. If you have a dog brush handy, it can be useful for getting deep into the coat.

Step 5. Wash your pet when you see dead fleas

When you start seeing fleas falling into the tub, you need to rinse your dog to get rid of them and reach the live ones. Basically, you have to rinse it and repeat the wash just like you would if you were washing the oil from your hair.

Step 6. Continue

Brush until you no longer see any fleas in the tub as you wash it. This can take a few minutes.

Step 7. Keep in mind that fleas go to the dog's head and face to hide

This means that you will probably have to add some detergent and rinse. You can take them off your dog's face with your hands when you see them, so you don't have to put soap and water in your eyes.

Use a spoon or fork to mix well until it bubbles.

Step 2. You will need a "flea comb."

You can buy it at any pet store for a few euros. They are small combs that are used to brush hair and catch fleas in the bristles.

Step 3. Brush the cat

Use the comb and dip it with the fleas in the bowl of water and detergent. This kills them instantly. This process can take a long time, but it's worth it.

Advice

  • Since fleas tend to get on your pet's head and muzzle, once you start washing your pet, it's best to wet and brush his neck first, then the rest of his body. This will create a barrier and prevent fleas from invading your face and ears.
  • Put a bowl with half dish soap and half water on the floor overnight; fleas will be attracted to the soap and jump into the bowl. Fleas will be killed instantly!
  • It's a good idea to keep a towel or paper towel handy for when fleas get stuck in the comb. You can throw them into the bowl, using a towel.

Brush deep into the fur, but be very careful not to scrub too hard. If your pet cries, you are rubbing too hard

  • If you see other fleas after a few days, just repeat the process every two or three days (you shouldn't do it more often than that), and then take a flea medication to kill them.
  • At the same time you have to treat the house and the garden, otherwise your pet will be infested again.
  • You can use flea cream after your bath to kill any remaining fleas and prevent further infestations.

Warnings

  • Be very careful when washing it around your eyes. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with cold water and dry with a towel.
  • Make sure the water is neither too hot nor too cold!
