Few things are more frustrating than moving your car from the driveway and noticing that a large oil stain has formed right where you parked. Not only will you have to go to the mechanic, you will also have to fight with the annoying oil stain. Here are a couple of methods that can be of great help to you.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Cat sand method
Step 1. This is a real and proven method
In fact, cat sand has a highly absorbent and effective power, both for your pet and for cleaning concrete.
Step 2. Choose a cheap product
You don't need high-quality sand, which removes any odor or forms practical balls. The important thing is that it is super absorbent.
Step 3. Spread the sand
Use a generous amount and completely cover the oil stain.
Step 4. Patience is a virtue
Wait and let the sand act. 10 to 15 minutes should be enough to remove a small amount of oil, for larger stains wait a few hours or a whole night.
Step 5. Break the sand
Wear work shoes and stomp and scrub it to get it into the oil. Then remove the dirty sand.
Step 6. Replace the offending oil with elbow grease
Take a wire brush and concentrated cleaner and scrub the area in circular motions. Use force to clean the oily area to relieve the pressure for the surrounding area. This will help smooth out the difference between the stained surface and the clean one.
Step 7. Rinse and repeat
Check the result of your efforts.
- If it looks clean, tidy up and go to rest.
- If not, apply more detergent and continue brushing.
Step 8. Be aware that if the oil stays in contact with the concrete for too long, it may take years to completely remove the stain
Method 2 of 2: Concrete Cleaner Method
Step 1. Prepare the area
Sweep it to remove any dirt and make sure the surface is dry before treating it.
Step 2. Apply stain removal product
Decide the amount according to the instructions and sprinkle it on the stain. Do your best to reduce the color difference between the treated area and the rest of the surface, otherwise it will remain shiny and clearly visible.
Step 3. Let the product act
Decide the amount of time you need by following the manufacturer's instructions.
Step 4. Rinse and tidy up
Some products need to be rinsed, others will simply be washed away by rain and time. Read the instructions and act accordingly. If your stain is very stubborn it may require further or different treatment.
