Do you love time travel and building things? Are you looking for a way to have fun alone or with friends? Are you a creative type with a lot of free time? If you answered "yes" to these questions, now is the time to build a fake time machine. Follow these steps to find out how.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Build the Exterior of the Machine
Step 1. Get a cardboard box large enough to fit comfortably
A box the size of a refrigerator would be ideal, but it could be a challenge to find one of the size you need. It must be rectangular in shape. Here's where to look:
- Go to a DIY store and buy the largest cardboard box they have.
- Go to a supermarket. Supermarkets usually throw out boxes in the morning or late afternoon, so don't be ashamed to ask for one. But don't take a carton that contained smelly or particularly smelly food.
- Ask someone who recently moved out if they can keep a box for you.
Step 2. Get a bucket of silver and gold paint
Next, paint the outside of the box with silver or gold - a nice futuristic color. Make sure you use a paint that is safe and specially designed for cardboard, not a wall paint or a type of paint that is too concentrated, otherwise you could do harm to your health.
When the paint is dry, sprinkle some glitter on the painted surface
Step 3. Get some black construction paper
Cut it into large circles or squares. Once the box is dry, glue them on the outside with duct tape. Now you have windows! They are blacked out, of course.
- Alternatively, you can use a utility knife to make openings in the machine. Be careful because it can be a difficult operation.
- You can also paint the windows on the outside of the box.
Part 2 of 3: Prepare the Interior of the Car
Step 1. Paint the inside of the box
If you painted the outside in silver, do the inside in gold and vice versa. You don't necessarily have to put the same care and time into doing the interiors, as you will be the only person who will see them.
Step 2. Make a keyboard with numbers
Glue a piece of white card into the box, and write the numbers 0 to 9 on it, just like on a keyboard. You will use them to adjust the time machine.
Step 3. Put an old phone in the car
You'll need it for emergencies.
Step 4. Get a comfortable seat
Place a soft red pillow in the bottom of the carton. You will need something to sit on, as you may be traveling for a long time. You can also spread a red cloth all over the bottom of the box.
Velvet or satin are the best fabrics. The interior of your time machine must be luxurious
Step 5. Insert other technology objects
Put an old joystick and an old computer in the time machine. Even an old modem will come in handy on your long journeys.
Any object with keyboards and buttons (especially if they are bright) will look perfect. In any case, do not put objects in the box with which you could injure yourself
Step 6. Don't forget other stocks
Take a bottle of water, some packaged snacks, and a calculator with you, as boredom or hunger may strike you during your adventure.
Step 7. Operate the time machine
Now that the machine is ready, all you have to do is operate it. Talk in a robotic voice and start pressing keyboard buttons. Also press the calculator keys and move the joystick to add emphasis.
Predictably, something will go wrong, and you'll have to scream like a real mad scientist
Part 3 of 3: Play in the Fake Time Machine
Step 1. Fall asleep
To make the machine work, you must either pass out or doze off. Maybe it will happen to you while you are reading a book about time travel, or it can also happen for a fake "explosion" caused by the repair of the buttons.
Close your eyes for a few minutes, and when you open them again you will have been teleported
Step 2. Create effects for when the time machine is running
You have to do something to prove the machine is running. Your friends can make some metallic hums, or you can put some "mysterious" music in theme with the time machine. Try the Twilight Zone soundtrack, for example. Here are other ways to show that the machine is running:
- Get someone to recreate the voltage swings in the lights, or recreate them on their own.
- Get a fog machine and take it out while the time machine is running. Only do this if it is safe to use it in your yard, garage, or any other outdoor area where you built the car.
- Have someone blow soap bubbles around you.
- A friend could also throw glitter or confetti in the air, but you could be too confusing.
- Turn on a noisy fan and point it at the car.
- When the noise dies down, one of your friends might say "completed" in a robotic voice.
Step 3. Get out and find yourself in another age
Once you arrive at your destination, you will officially find yourself in a new era. Before you can fully enjoy your magical time travel, there are a few things you need to do to get the most out of your experience:
- Take on a weathered appearance. You have traveled through hundreds, thousands or even millions of years, so it is normal for you to be a little worn out in the meantime. When you get out of the car, do it with straight hair or put black make-up on your cheeks to show that your adventure has almost "wiped out" you.
- Make sure you surround the car with items from the new era.
- Your friends should also wear clothes that conform to the fashion of the time you landed.
- As you first explore and meet new people, you are completely confused. It causes an uproar!
- You may even decide that you prefer to go home - just re-enter the time machine. But be careful - there's a good chance the machine won't work anymore!
Advice
- Everyone involved in the time machine project must love this game. Skeptics can even be sent home!
- Choose the epoch to which you will travel in advance. This way you can prepare clothes for your friends for when you get out of the car.
Warnings
- Ask your parents for permission before building the time machine. They will be able to tell you if you are doing something dangerous.
- Do not use wall paint to paint the time machineotherwise you will feel bad and dizzy.
