Playing darts is a great way to spend time with friends or people you've just met. Played both informally and competitively, it is a game of dexterity that anyone can practice at any time. Read on to learn about target setup, the right technique for throwing darts, and the different game modes.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: The Target and the Scoring System
Step 1. Each dart board is constructed the same way
Each target is divided into segments numbered from 1 to 20, arranged in non-sequential order. To play, you will have to throw a dart at the target, counting the points you have scored.
Step 2. Note that the target is divided into sections
Each section determines a different score. If a dart hits the outer green or red ring, that player will be awarded double the points of the segment hit.
-
For example, if you hit the outer ring of wedge 18, you would get 36 points.
Step 3. If a dart hits the inner green and red ring, the player scores three times the points in that section
-
For example, if you hit the inner ring of wedge 18, you would get 54 points.
Step 4. The bullseye is called the bullseye, and is itself divided into two sections
The innermost section (usually red in color) is called "double bull" or "cork", and the outer section (usually green) is called "single bull" or simply "bull".
-
If a player hits the green part of the bullseye, he scores 25 points.
-
If a player hits the red part of the bullseye, he scores 50 points.
Step 5. The rest of the target is divided into 20 sections, each of which is assigned a number
If a player hits the (usually) yellow or black sections, he scores a number of points equal to that assigned to the wedge.
-
If you hit the 18 wedge in an area with no multipliers, you would get exactly 18 points.
Part 2 of 4: Throwing a Dart
Step 1. Heal the starting position
It may be tempting to lean forward or backward, but you would have less stability than if you were standing upright.
- If you are right, keep your right foot in front of you and your left foot behind. Most of your weight should rest on your right foot, but don't lean too far forward.
- If you are left handed, keep your left foot in front of you and your right foot behind. Most of your weight should rest on your left foot, but don't lean too far forward.
Step 2. Keep both feet firmly on the ground
You will need to stay balanced while casting. Otherwise you could deflect the dart in an unwelcome direction.
Step 3. Hold the dart correctly
Place the dart in the palm of your dominant hand, and slide it over your fingers until you find the center of gravity. Place your thumb slightly behind the center of gravity, while placing at least two, and possibly four, other fingers on the dart. Use the grip you feel most comfortable with.
Step 4. Hold the tip of the arrow slightly upwards, and try to move it back and forth in as straight a line as possible
Any extraneous movement at this stage will not allow you to throw the straight dart.
Step 5. Throw the arrow straight in front of you in one smooth motion
Don't use too much force, it's unnecessary and dangerous.
Darts don't require a lot of force to stick into the target. Remember, the aim of the game is to score points, not to determine who is stronger
Part 3 of 4: Playing "01"
Step 1. The most common game mode is known as "01"
The aim is simple. Each player must bring his score to zero.
Why the name "01"? It refers to the fact that each player starts the game with a score that ends with "01". Single player games generally start with scores of 301 or 501. In team games, you can start at 701 or 1001
Step 2. Mark the firing line
It is the line that the players will not be able to cross at the moment of the shot. It is located 237 cm from the outer face of the target.
Step 3. Throw a dart to decide who will play first
The person who comes closest to the double bull can start.
Step 4. Each player takes turns throwing three darts
The points scored by a player will be subtracted from his total.
For example, if a player starts with 301, and scores 54 points, his new score will be 247
Step 5. To win the game, you need to get your score exactly to zero
For this the players will have to pay attention to their last shots. If they get more points than necessary to go out, their score will be reset to the one before the series of shots. Also, to win, the score must be reset by making a double.
- For example, if a player is left at 2, he will have to make a double one. If he has 18 points left, a double nine.
- If it is not possible to go out with a double, for example because 19 points remain, a player can roll a three with the first roll to bring the total to 16. At that point he can make a double eight to end the game.
Part 4 of 4: Playing "Cricket"
Step 1. For Cricket mode, just focus on numbers 15-20 and the center
The objective of the game is to "close" the numbers from 15 to 20 three times; or hit a double and a single of the same number; or hit a triple.
Step 2. Prepare a board near the target
List numbers 15-20 in order, so you can tick when a player has closed a number.
Step 3. If you manage to close a number not yet closed by your opponent, and hit it, you will score points equal to the number
For example, if you are the only player to have hit 16 and hit it, you will get 16 points.
Step 4. The player who closes all numbers and has the most points wins
It will not be enough to finish first - whoever finishes with the most points will win.
The green part of the bullseye is worth 25 points and the red part 50
Advice
- Try to eliminate all unnecessary movements from your shooting mechanics. You will save energy and be more composed.
- Always follow the movement. After throwing the dart, do not block the arm. Keep moving it until it is spread out.
