Clay pots are typically great for growing in pots, as they provide good drainage. They are readily available and usually inexpensive. Unfortunately, they can look a bit monotonous lined up on the windowsill, in the yard or on the terrace. Here are three ways to give them a touch of vibrancy by painting them.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Simple coloring with spray can

Step 4. Spray a light coat of color by moving the can across the surface of the jar and rotating the jar as needed

Step 5. To make a two-tone vase, cover the desired parts of the vase with masking tape before spraying the first layer of paint

When the first color has completely dried, remove the masking tape and cover the painted part with new masking tape. Then spray the other color onto the uncovered surface.

Method 2 of 3: Fancy vases

Step 2. Cover the vase vertically from the bottom to the top edge with strips of masking tape spaced from each other by a gap the same width as the tape

Step 3. Paint the uncovered sections with the lightest color by applying a little color over the edges of the masking tape as well

Let the color dry and apply a second coat if needed. Let the paint dry completely and remove the tape.

Step 4. Cover the painted sections with as many strips of masking tape

If the paint has dried completely, the tape won't do you any harm. If after removing this layer of tape the color comes off in some places, go over the color with a brush or cover the discolored spots with decorations.

Step 5. Paint the uncovered surface of the pot with the darker color and let the color dry completely
