Do you dream of becoming a stylist? Start with the basics. Thanks to this article you will learn how to draw simple tops and dresses. It's up to you to add the details!
Steps
Step 1. Listen to some music if you think it will be useful, or watch a fashion show to find out which style you want to reproduce
You can also find inspiration by browsing a fashion magazine (Vogue, Elle or Cosmopolitan are great).
Step 2. Gather the material and decide if you want to design a sleeveless, long or short sleeve, spaghetti strap, strapless or three quarter sleeve top (long sleeve and strapless models are more simple)
Step 3. Start drawing the sketch on a lined paper, so that you can use the lines as a reference and have a better sense of proportion
Then you can use a plain sheet of paper.
Step 4. Begin by outlining the shoulders
It doesn't have to be anything fancy; you can always correct errors later. For now, your goal is to put what you have in mind on paper. The details come later.
Step 5. Draw a curved line
It will be the top of the top or dress.
Step 6. Next, draw two thin lines vertically starting from the ends of that curve
Step 7. Stretch the lines to waist height; then draws curves slightly inward to emphasize the silhouette of the figure
This step is to give the garment you are designing a more fitted effect. Tight-fitting dresses are more effective than baggy ones, like a sack. However, you can also design softer clothes.
Step 8. Make the bottom of the top or dress any way you like
You can design it long or short, plain or lace, hemmed or unedged, straight or angled.
Advice
- Beware of real clothing and fashion sketches. Notice how the garments fall and fold, how they wrap around the body. Empire-style dresses are great examples of complex and beautiful folds of fabric. Other clothes adhere to the skin, or have a specific shape.
- Unleash your imagination! Your creativity, combined with the things you like, will inspire others and reflect your ideal of style.
- Cute accessories may also complement a simple garment, but they will never be able to "save" a terrible one. Consider designing a belt to make the dress tighter at the waist, or a pair of leggings under a short skirt.
- If you want, you can actually make the garment you designed. Go to a fabric or DIY store. Look for fabrics, picture books, and other ideas.
- Embrace new possibilities. Browse fashion magazines and watch a show online.
- Once you've drawn the sketch, transfer it to plain paper and add the details.
- Don't give too much importance to any mistakes; it's hard to get everything right the first time.
- Unless you want to get busy with needle and thread, don't worry about how your design can be used to make a real dress.
- Draw a whole body.
Warnings
- Never copy someone else's designs! Try to be original.
- You will probably make a mistake. Try and try again! You will improve over time.
- Use a pencil and a good eraser. It is forbidden to use the pen!
