Have you always wanted to know what caterinetta is? Would you like to knit but the usual straight and purl stitches are too difficult? Then you can try tricotin. There are many steps but it is easier than you think.

Steps

Step 1. Prepare your caterinetta

You can also make your own by threading tacks around the hole in a spool of thread.

Step 2. Insert some woolen thread (or other yarn) of about 20 cm in length inside the caterinetta from the top and make sure that 8 - 10 cm come out from underneath

Step 3. Hold the chain with your left hand and the thread coming out of the top with your right

Step 4. Name each hook (mentally), such as north, south, east and west

There is no need for the hooks to respect the real directions but you must be careful not to confuse the north with the east halfway through the work.

Step 5. Wrap the yarn in a clockwise circular fashion around the north hook

Step 6. Wrap the yarn around the west hook so that it is taut

The taut wire must pass through the inside of the hooks, near the central hole.

Step 7. Continue wrapping the south and east hooks counterclockwise in the same way

Step 8. Repeat the same steps until you have two turns of thread on each hook

Method 1 of 1: Knit the stitch

French Knit Step 9

Step 1. Starting from the north hook, take the lowest round (the first) with the needle and pull it over the hook, then drop it inside, leaving only the second round on the hook

Step 2. Repeat the steps on each hook, working counterclockwise (ie n, o, s, e)

Tighten the stitches by gently pulling the thread from the bottom of the chain.

Step 3. Wrap the yarn as you did before but only once

Again, you should have 2 turns on each hook.

Step 4. Repeat the entire procedure which consists of passing the lowest round over the hook

Step 5. Continue wrapping and dropping the rounds until you see the knitted stitch coming out of the bottom

A four-sided elastic tube should form which tapers at the tip.

Step 6. Work the thread until the tube is the desired length

Step 7. Close the stitches

Step 9. Take the lowest round of the west hook, pull it up and drop it as you did before

Advice

  • The great thing about knitting is that it's a lot easier than knitting!
  • Tricotin goes well with threads of many colors (like a gradient rainbow).
  • You can buy caterinettes with up to 20 pegs to make very thick tubes. But buy it only if you want to work a lot of time even just to make a 30 cm tube.
