Making a crochet ball is pretty easy. You can make a simple one-color ball or opt for a more stimulating striped ball of different colors. Or again, you can make small balls in a row using a particular crochet technique called "ball stitch".
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Single Color Ball
Step 1. Make a loop knot and two chain stitches
Make an adjustable knot at the end of the hook and two chain stitches starting at the knot.
Step 2. Work six single stitches
Make six single crochet starting from the second stitch, which should match the first chain stitch you made in the previous step.
At the end you should have your first round of six points
Step 3. Make two single stitches in each of the previous stitches
Complete your second round by working two single crochet in each of the stitches on the first round.
Your second round should have 12 total points
Step 4. Toggle between two low points and one
For the third round make two single crochet in the first point of the previous round, then a single crochet in the second point of the previous round. Continue like this using each stitch from the previous round.
In the end you should have a total of 18 points
Step 5. Complete three rounds of low stitches
For the next three rounds make a single point in each of the points of the previous round.
- For the fourth round, do the points starting from the third round; for the fifth, fouls starting from the fourth and for the sixth starting from the fifth.
- For each round you should have 18 total points.
- Once you have completed the sixth round you may need to turn the ball outwards to improve its overall appearance.
Step 6. Decrease one single point on the next round
Decrease a single point from the first two points of the previous round. Then work a single crochet in the next stitch. Continue like this until the end of the round.
- For this seventh round you should have a total of 12 points.
- With this step you have reached the middle of your ball and can begin to decrease to close it. Basically you will have to create the same rounds as in the first half, but in reverse.
Step 7. Stuff the ball
Fill the ball with synthetic fiber for stuffing, dry beans or plastic bags.
If you decide to use something small like beans for stuffing, you can also wait until you have completed another round before filling the ball. However, if you wait for more than one lap, the operation may become too difficult
Step 8. Decrease one low point again
For the eighth round, decrease one single point on the next two points from the previous round. Repeat until the round is complete.
You should get a total of six points
Step 9. Decrease one low point for the ninth and final round
Decrease one low point on two points from the previous round and continue like this until the round is complete.
You should only have three steps to make
Step 10. Close the ball
Cut the thread leaving a good margin. Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook and pull through the loop formed to create a knot that holds the ball closed.
Run the yarn between the points of the ball to hide it
Method 2 of 3: Striped Ball
Step 1. Make a loop knot and two chain stitches
Make an adjustable knot at the end of the hook and two chain stitches from the knot.
Join the two stitches with a slip stitch to create the main ring
Step 2. Work 6 single crochet
Make 6 single crochet starting from the second stitch, which should match the first chain stitch you made in the previous step.
This is your first ride
Step 3. Make two single stitches in each of the previous stitches
For your second round make two single stitches for each of the stitches from the previous round.
- It is best to use a piece of different colored thread, a paper clip, or a piece of masking tape to mark the end of the loop just completed. This also applies to the following laps. It will help you track the start and end of each lap more easily.
- You should have a total of 12 points.
Step 4. Toggle between two low points and one
For the third round do a single crochet in the next stitch of the previous round, followed by two single crochet in the next stitch of the previous round. Continue like this until you complete the round.
You should have a total of 18 points
Step 5. Change color and single crochet your fourth round
To make a row, enter a second color, instead of continuing with the color you were using. Work the fourth round with a single crochet for the next two stitches and two single crochet for the next stitch. Continue like this until the round is finished.
You should have 24 total points
Step 6. Toggle between two low points and one
For the fifth round make a single crochet in each of the next three points of the previous round, then two single crochet in the next point. Continue like this until the round is complete.
You should have 30 total points
Step 7. Inc for the sixth round
Continue to increase the size of your ball by making a single crochet in each of the next four points of the previous round. Make two single crochet in the next point. Continue like this until the round is complete.
In the end you should have 36 total points
Step 8. Change color and keep increasing
For your seventh round change the thread color back to the starting one. Single crochet for each of the next five stitches from the previous round, followed by two single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat until the end of the round.
You should have a total of 42 points
Step 9. Increase the number of low points for the next 6 laps
Return to the second color at the end of the ninth round and then back to the starting color at the end of the twelfth round.
- For the eighth round make a single crochet in each of the next 6 stitches and two single crochet in the following stitch, continuing to the end of the round. You will have a total of 48 points.
- For the ninth round make a single crochet in each of the next seven points and two single crochet in the following point, continuing to the end of the round. You will have a total of 54 points.
- For the tenth round, make a single crochet in each of the next eight points and two single crochet in the following point, continuing to the end of the round. You will have a total of 60 points.
- For the 11th round make a single crochet in each of the next nine points and two single crochet in the following point, continuing to the end of the round. You will have a total of 66 points.
- For the twelfth round make a single crochet in each of the next ten points and two single crochet in the following point. You will have a total of 72 points.
- For the thirteenth round make a single crochet in each of the next eleven stitches and two single crochet in the following stitch. You will have a total of 78 points.
Step 10. For rounds from the fourteenth to the twenty-first make a single stitch for each stitch
The next eight rounds have the same pattern. You just have to make a single point for each point of the previous round.
- Switch to the second thread color after the fifteenth round and go back to the starting color after the eighteenth round - and finish with that.
- Each round should have a total of 78 points.
Step 11. Complete the first half of the ball
Cut the thread leaving a good margin. Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook and pull through the loop formed to create a knot that holds the ball closed.
Step 12. Repeat the pattern to create the other half of the ball
You have completed the first half of the ball, now you have to do the other one following the same steps, including the color change.
Step 13. Join the two halves
Thread 61 cm of the original color thread into a darning needle. Sew the two halves of the ball together by carefully aligning the two edges and sewing the stitches from one side of the two halves to the other.
- Place the two halves on top of each other from the right side of the stitch.
- Sew around the entire perimeter leaving an opening of about 2.5 cm.
Step 14. Stuff the ball
Turn the ball outward and fill it through the slot with synthetic padding fiber or other suitable material.
Depending on the effect you want to achieve, you can also fill the ball with plastic bags or dried beans
Step 15. Close the ball
Thread more thread into the needle, if necessary, and sew the gap left earlier with a suture, then secure it with a knot.
Pull the remaining thread through the stitches to hide it
Method 3 of 3: Ball Point
Step 1. Make a throw and pull a ring through the next stitch
Twist the yarn around the hook. Pull the hook through the next stitch in the pattern, turn the yarn around the hook backwards one more time, and pull the hook towards the front to create another loop. At the end you should have a total of 3 loops on the hook.
Keep in mind that the ball stitch does not create a ball of its own, but serves to give the effect of a ball on a work that has already begun. To use this stitch you must have already started a work and you should start the stitch with a loop already on the hook
Step 2. Repeat three times
At the end you should have nine loops on the crochet hook.
- Make a yarn over (fourth loop) and pull the hook through the same stitch one more time. Make another yarn over and pull the hook back through the front of the piece (fifth loop).
- Make a yarn over (sixth loop) and pull the hook through the same stitch one more time. Make another yarn over and pull the hook through the front of the piece (seventh loop).
- Make a yarn over in the front (eighth ring) and pull the hook through the same stitch one last time. Make another yarn over and pull the hook back through the front of the piece (ninth loop).
Step 3. Make a throw and go through all nine rings
With the hook in front of the work, turn the yarn around the hook one last time. Pull the yarn through the nine loops on the hook in one go. This step completes your ball stitch.
If you are going to make a row of balls you may need to adjust the balls with your fingers when you are done to make sure they are all in the same direction

Decreasing by a single crochet means making a single crochet for two stitches of the shirt.
- Make a yarn over on the tip of the hook, pull the hook through the appropriate place, and make a yarn over on the tip of the hook on the other side.
- Pull the ring, make another yarn over and pull the hook through the next stitch.
- Make a yarn over on the other side and pull another loop to the front of the piece.
- Pull this last loop through the other two on the hook to complete the stitch.

To make the suture you will need a darning needle.
- Thread the needle through the stitches on the front and back of the stitch on both sides, working at the base of the opening. Pull the thread through the stitches, securing it with a knot at the end.
- Thread the needle through the row of stitches immediately above the first on the front and back of the stitch on both sides. Work in the same direction you worked earlier and pull the yarn through the stitches again. So you will have completed a single suture.
- Repeat this process until you have reached the end of the opening.
