Dressing up a teddy bear can be easy. Just use small pieces of fabric scattered around the house. There is no need to spend a fortune to create the teddy bear wardrobe and you can also give free rein to your imagination.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: A Simple T-Shirt
Draw the Model
Step 1. Get a tape measure
Step 2. Measure your teddy bear
Measure the trunk in both width and height.
Step 3. Draw the shirt template on a sheet of paper
Add about 1.5 cm of seam space. Cut the paper and pin it on the fabric of your choice.
Step 4. Use chalk to trace the edges of the paper
Alternatively, you can pin the paper pattern onto the fabric and cut the outline.
Step 5. Repeat the process to get two pieces of cut fabric, which you will then need to join together
Sew the T-Shirt
Step 1. Line up the two pieces of fabric
Pin the pieces to hold them in place while you sew.
Step 2. Put the thread of your choice into the needle or sewing machine
Be sure to change the spool as well if you are using the sewing machine.
Sew the T-Shirt
Step 1. Sew the shirt inside
Do not sew the hole for the head or the one at the base of the shirt.
Step 2. Turn up the newly sewn shirt
Step 3. Finished
Add some accessories and buttons to decorate the shirt. Test the shirt on your teddy bear to make sure it fits him.
Method 2 of 2: Seamless pajamas
Step 1. Get an old sock you don't use
Make sure it is undamaged, in good condition, and washed before you begin. Since it will become the "fabric" of the teddy bear's pajamas, make sure it's cute.
Step 2. Cut the sock in half to make two parts of equal size
Step 3. Take the piece with the two holes, the hole in the leg and the new hole created by the cut
Cut a small hole on one side, large enough for the teddy bear's arm to pass through. Make another hole on the opposite side, the same size as the first one. The two holes must be mirrored. Put the sock through the teddy bear's head and place your arms in the new holes. Here is the new teddy bear pajamas.
Step 4. Put the other piece of sock on the head of the teddy bear to make the teddy bear night hat
Step 5. That's it
You now have a set of pajamas for your stuffed animal, made in minutes.
Advice
-
Choose a suitable fabric:
- The best thread to use for clothes is cotton mixed with polyester. Keeps longer if you have to wash your stuffed animal's clothes.
- Felt fabric is fine, as it does not fray easily and requires no hemming.
- You can use your old clothes too.
- The old pajamas are perfect for creating teddy bear pajamas.
- Make sure that the material you are using does not tear easily if you want to play with the teddy bear outside the home. The stuffed animal clothes must withstand wear and tear.
- If you want to cut a sock in half, using the half with the heel shape, cut it along the line where the heel meets the ankle. Then slip it to your teddy bear remembering to make holes for the arms. You will get a hooded sweater.
-
To put on and take off the shirt with ease:
- Apply buttons on the front or back.
- Apply Velcro to the back of all clothes for easier removal and putting on.
- Use snap buttons instead of classic buttons.
- To make a makeshift bed, you can use a shoe box, blanket or folded towel.
- You can also make socks for your soft toy using your own, cutting them according to the size of your teddy bear's feet.
- Alternatively, use doll clothes if you can't sew or don't have a sewing machine. If you want to get the best results without tearing the fabric you can use the clothes of bigger dolls. Apply a hair clip or headband to give it more style!
- These clothes will go well with any toy the size of a teddy bear.
Warnings
- If you have long hair, it is best to tie it up while using the sewing machine to avoid getting tangled.
- Use a thimble if you want to avoid puncturing your fingers when sewing by hand.
- Ask an adult to supervise.
- Scissors and needles can be dangerous. Be careful how you handle them.
