In 2010, approximately 300,000 women underwent breast implant surgery in the United States alone, making breast enlargement the most requested cosmetic surgery procedure in the country. Breast implants are surgically placed under the skin of a woman's breasts to make them larger or fuller. Breast implants can also be put on to give asymmetrical breasts the same size. Once the surgery is done, the breasts can take several weeks to heal. Follow these steps to know how to heal after a breast implant.
Steps
Step 1. Listen to your doctor
Recovery instructions are provided by your doctor on a case-by-case basis. Based on age, physical attributes and health problems, the doctor will tell you what you can and what you cannot do in the weeks following the surgery.
Step 2. Avoid anything that requires excessive force, abrasion, or movement, such as lifting heavy objects, playing tennis, or jumping on a trampoline
This is important, because you do not have to create stress or strain on surgical incisions or new implants.
Step 3. Take the prescribed medicines
After surgery, you will be prescribed medications to apply directly to the scars or to be taken orally to aid healing and / or reduce pain. Medicines also reduce the risk of infection.
- Apply the topical medication prescribed by your doctor to the scars and breasts. This will help heal the wounds and tissue externally. Some topical drugs perform the action of numbing the pain following surgery.
- Take the medications your doctor has prescribed by mouth. It will help you heal breast and internal tissue scars, as well as provide pain relief.
Step 4. Apply a moisturizer with shea butter to the breasts
After surgery, the breasts may turn red, hot, or shiny because the skin has been stretched. By applying some shea butter, you can prevent the skin from developing stretch marks.
Step 5. Wear a supportive bra that reduces breast movement
The most suitable in this context is the athletic / sports bra. Keep your new breasts as still as possible to heal quickly. A bra that does not provide the necessary support places excessive stress and strain on the new implants.
Step 6. Sleep on your back for up to 10 days after surgery
Putting too much pressure on the breasts while sleeping on them could break the sutures, resulting in excessive pain and further medical intervention to repair the tears.
Advice
- Most plastic surgeons offer free consultations to potential patients. Talk to a doctor to see if the process of a breast implant is something you are ready to go through. Surgery can be painful, and the recovery time takes several weeks.
- If you have any doubts while recovering from surgery, consult your doctor.
Warnings
- Avoid exposing scars to the sun for at least 6 months or a year after surgery.
- Do not drive for 24 or 48 hours after surgery. You will still be quite dizzy after the anesthesia and may feel quite sore, and this could interfere with your ability to drive safely.
- Plastic surgery is not an exact science. Although most patients are happy with the results, there is no guarantee that the surgery will be successful. Sometimes a single surgery may not achieve optimal results, so a second surgery may be necessary.
