Kale is a healthy green leafy vegetable that can be used to make salads and other recipes. If you want to use it, it is important to wash it before continuing. To do this, you will need to remove the stems and immerse it in water. Then, wash it under running water from the tap to remove any residue of earth and dirt. So keep it carefully until the time comes to use it.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Start the Washing Process
Step 1. Cut and wash the kale immediately after buying it
Kale actually needs to be washed immediately instead of waiting for the time to eat it. This will prevent any dirt and earth residues from sticking to the leaves.
Step 2. Remove the stems
While you can keep them for later use, it's generally easier to remove them before washing, as it's easier to get to the leaves. Using a knife, separate the leaves from the stem by getting as close to it as possible.
If you decide to use the stems, cut them into cubes before cooking, as they can be quite tough
Step 3. Fill a bowl with tap water
Get a bowl large enough that you can completely submerge the cabbage. Fill it with tap water. Leave some space at the top, as the water level will rise slightly as you add the leaves.
Part 2 of 3: Soak the Cabbage
Step 1. Dip the cabbage in the water
Place the leaves in the bowl making sure to submerge them completely. They shouldn't stick out of the surface of the water.
Step 2. Shake the cabbage in the water
He submerged the leaves, shaking them slightly in the water, in order to remove the most evident residues of earth and dirt. Either way, do the procedure gently to avoid breaking them.
Step 3. Leave the cabbage to soak
Leave it to soak in the water for a few minutes. This will help soften any dirt that may get stuck in the cracks in the leaves. The duration of the soak should be between 5 and 10 minutes to have an optimal result.
Step 4. Drain the water
After 5-10 minutes, pour the water into a colander or colander inside the sink. Shake it several times to completely remove the water from the leaves.
Don't worry if you fail to remove it completely. Next you will need to dry the leaves better with a paper towel
Step 5. Rinse the cabbage under running water
After removing it from the sink, give it a final rinse under running water. This way you should remove any dirt that has come off during soaking.
Make sure you turn the leaves as needed to clean them all properly
Step 6. Dab the cabbage with paper towels
Take some napkins and lay the leaves on them. Then, take a few more to dab them gently. Try to dry them as much as possible before storing them.
Part 3 of 3: Storing the Cabbage After Washing It
Step 1. Store the cabbage in an airtight container
The leaves should be stored in an airtight container, such as Tupperware. You can also use an airtight bag. First squeeze it to let the air out completely.
Step 2. Keep the cabbage in the coldest area of the refrigerator
Cabbage tends to become more bitter when stored at room temperature. Place it in the coldest spot of the fridge to keep it as cool as possible.
Step 3. Discard the cabbage after two weeks
When stored correctly, cabbage lasts two weeks. Mark the date on the container you put it in. Throw it away after 15 days.
