Children's clothes require frequent washing, as they get dirty and absorb odors from food, accidents and outdoor games. Babies have sensitive skin, prone to irritation and cracking. Special care must be given to their clothing when you wash it to prolong its usability and protect their skin.
Steps
Step 1. Read the washing instructions on dirty clothes
You need to know the right temperatures to wash them and special directions. Also, you need to know if they are fireproof.
Most children's pajamas are made from a flame retardant fabric. Special precautions must be taken to preserve the properties of this fabric
Step 2. Divide the clothes you will wash
Separate them into small loads according to color - divide them into whites, colored and darks. For fireproof garments, a separate cycle must be made, since they have special instructions. Also, after dividing the pieces by color, separate them further into smaller loads based on the expected washing temperature.
Cloth diapers should always be washed alone. Never mix other baby clothing with these pieces
Step 3. Treat stains on clothing with a mild product
Read the label - it must be safe for baby clothes and sensitive skin.
You can choose between sprays, sticks and pre-treatment liquids. Apply the treatment according to the instructions, and be sure to soak the garment for the suggested amount of time
Step 4. Set the washing machine to the recommended temperature on the dirty clothes labels and choose the wash cycle
If the clothing has no labels, wash it in lukewarm water, unless it is cloth diapers or fireproof clothing. Fabric nappies should be washed in hot water for greater sanitation. Fireproof pieces should be washed in cold or lukewarm water to retain their properties
Step 5. Pour unscented, additive-free detergent into the washing machine
Measure the amount based on the size of the load.
- Most popular brands make detergents designed for children, and they usually clearly indicate that they are suitable for their delicate skin.
- You can make a mild detergent at home by mixing a glass of castile soap flakes, half a glass of soda ash and half a glass of borax. Take a glass of this solution and pour it into the detergent compartment. Do not use homemade cleaners on fireproof pieces, since oils from Castile soap can break the fibers of these garments.
Step 6. Load the washing machine after setting the wash cycle
Make sure the weight is balanced for the appliance. Be careful not to overfill it.
