Some cocktails are famous for their delicious taste, while others are best known for their unique and original look. The Midori sour combines the best of both categories. In fact, it has a sweet and fruity taste, with a captivating green color that can give a touch of joy to any party. As if that weren't enough, you don't need to be an expert bartender to prepare it. Whether you want to make a simple Midori sour by mixing melon liqueur and some soft drinks or you prefer to add a little vodka to your drink, all you need is a glass and a cocktail stirrer to make it. In any case, to make the drink taste even fresher, it is advisable to prepare the sweet and sour mix at home to mix with the liqueur.

Steps
Method 1 of 3: Midori Sour with the Sweet and Sour Mix
Step 1. Fill a glass with ice
To prepare a classic Midori sour, the ideal would be to use an Old Fashioned or Rock glass, which usually has a capacity of around 250ml. Put enough ice to fill the glass.
If you want, you can mix all the ingredients of the Midori sour and the ice in a shaker, then pour the cocktail into the glass
Step 2. Add all the ingredients, except the fizzy drink, then give it a stir
After putting the ice in the glass, pour in 45ml of melon liqueur, 60ml of sweet and sour mix and 45ml of fresh lime juice. Mix all the ingredients well with a stirrer.
- Midori is the best known brand of melon liqueur and obviously inspired the name of the cocktail. However, you can use any melon liqueur you want to make the drink.
- You can also use a commercial sweet and sour mix to make the cocktail. However, consider that preparing it at home will make the drink taste fresher.
Step 3. Finish filling the glass with the fizzy drink and garnish with an orange slice
After mixing all the other ingredients, add a squeeze of lemon and lime soda. Insert an orange slice into the cocktail to garnish and serve.
- The orange can be substituted with a slice of lemon or lime if you prefer.
- Instead of inserting the orange into the cocktail, you can also pin a wedge on the edge of the glass.
Method 2 of 3: Midori Sour with Vodka
Step 1. In a glass, mix all the ingredients except the carbonated water and ice
Take a tall, narrow glass in which to mix 30ml of melon liqueur, 30ml of vodka, 15ml of lemon juice and 15ml of lime juice. To mix the ingredients well, use a stirrer or a long-handled spoon.
- For this cocktail you can use a Collins glass with a capacity of about 350ml.
- You can also mix the ingredients with a shaker if you prefer.
- Use freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice to enhance the taste of the cocktail.
- Although Midori melon liqueur is traditionally used for this drink, you can choose any other brand you want.
Step 2. Put ice in the glass
Once all the ingredients have been mixed, place a handful of ice in the glass to cool them. Stir again with a stirrer or spoon to make sure the ice is evenly distributed.
If you made the cocktail with a shaker, fill the glass with ice and then pour the drink over it
Step 3. Pour the sparkling water into the glass and garnish with the cherry
Once the ice has been placed in the glass, finish filling it with a splash of sparkling water. Insert a maraschino cherry into the drink and serve it.
- Any kind of soda water you want will do.
- If you want, you can also add an orange slice to the drink for garnish.
Method 3 of 3: Homemade Sweet and Sour Mix
Step 1. Heat the sugar and water in a saucepan until it comes to a boil
To make the syrup, pour 200 g of sugar and 250 ml of water into a saucepan. Heat the ingredients over medium-high or high heat and bring them to a boil.
Make sure you stir the mixture constantly while cooking to prevent the sugar from sticking to the pot
Step 2. Let the mixture simmer until the sugar dissolves
Once it comes to a boil, lower the heat to a moderate temperature. Simmer for about 7 minutes or until the sugar has dissolved completely.
Stir regularly during cooking to help dissolve the sugar
Step 3. Remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool
Once the sugar has completely dissolved, remove the pot from the stove. Let the sugar syrup cool completely. This should take 15 to 20 minutes.
Step 4. Strain the lemon and lime juice into a bottle
While you wait for the syrup to cool, place a strainer over the opening of an airtight bottle, then pour in 250ml of lemon juice and 120ml of freshly squeezed lime juice. Discard any remaining seeds and pulp in the colander.
You can use any airtight container to store the sweet and sour mix. However, it is preferable to use a bottle, as it will allow you to easily pour the liquid into cocktails
Step 5. Pour the syrup into the bottle and shake it well
After straining the lemon and lime juice, pour the cold syrup over it. Close the bottle and shake it vigorously to mix all the ingredients.
Step 6. Use the syrup immediately or store it in the fridge
As soon as you have finished mixing the ingredients, the sweet and sour mix will be ready to prepare the Midori sour or other cocktails. If you are not going to use it right away, make sure you close the bottle tightly and store it in the fridge.
