Often, while surfing the internet, we are disturbed by the windows of some sites that show sexual content. There is a very simple way to block a website without using programs.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: For Windows
Step 1. Find the HOSTS file
For Windows NT, find it in C: / winnt / system32 / drivers / etc. For other versions, C: / windows / system32 / drivers / etc.
Step 2. If the file is not present, create it by clicking on File >> New >> Text Document
Call it "HOSTS" without the.txt extension (for more info, see the Tips at the end of this page).
Step 3. Open the HOSTS file with Notepad
Right click, choose Open with >> Notepad >> OK.
Step 4. Add the site name to the end of the file
For example, if you want to block sitomaligno.com, add the address to the end of the file (after 127.0.0.1 press TAB, not Space):
Step 5. Save the file
Method 2 of 3: For Mac
Step 1. Open the "Finder"
Step 2. Click on the "Go" menu, then "Go to folder
..".
Step 3. Type "/ private" in the opened window and click GO
Step 4. Open the etc folder
Step 5. Find the Hosts file and open it with TextEdit
Step 6. Add the address of the site that is bothering you
Step 7. Note that you should add both the addresses "sitomaligno.com" and "www.sitomaligno.com" to the list
Method 3 of 3: Block an entire category of sites using a Web Filter
Step 1. Download a reputable Web Filter such as K9 Web Protection
Step 2. Open the downloaded file and install the program
Step 3. Your web filter will automatically protect you from pornographic and other risky sites
You can also manually add the addresses to block.
Advice
- To see the.txt extensions: click in the My Computer >> Tools >> Folder Options >> View window, and uncheck the box for "Hide known file extensions".
- Make sure the hosts file is set to read only. To check, right-click on the file and click Properties.
- If you can't delete the.txt extension, open a DOS window (Start -> Run -> cmd) and type:
cd C: / windows / system32 / drivers / etc [press Enter / Return] rename hosts.txt hosts [press Enter / Return]
If you are using Windows NT / 2000 / XP Pro, replace "winnt" with "windows" in the cd command. Close the DOS window.

Windows Vista users may not have access to the hosts file, if so:

Start Notepad with administrator privileges, then open the hosts file and edit it.
