This article shows you how to uninstall a program on Mac. You can do this in several ways, for example by dragging the app icon to the trash or using its uninstaller. Applications that have been downloaded and installed via the Apple store can be uninstalled using the Launchpad.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use the Recycle Bin
Step 1. Open a Finder window
Click the blue stylized face icon visible within the System Dock.
Step 2. Go to the Applications folder
It is located inside the left sidebar of the Finder window.
Step 3. Locate the program you wish to remove
Scroll through the list of icons that appears until you find the one of the program you want to uninstall.
If the application is inside a folder, select the folder icon to access it and be able to check for the appropriate uninstaller software. If the indicated tool exists, you can refer to this method of the article
Step 4. Click the program icon
Do this with a single mouse click, so that it appears highlighted.
Step 5. Access the File menu
It is located in the upper left corner of the Mac screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 6. Choose the Move to Trash option
It is one of the items at the bottom of the menu File appeared.
Alternatively, you can press the key combination ⌘ Command + Del to automatically move the selected item to the system trash
Step 7. Select the trash can icon by holding down the mouse button
It is located directly on the Mac Dock. After a few seconds, a small context menu will appear above the trash can icon.
Step 8. Choose the Empty Trash option
It is located within the menu that appeared. This way the contents of the recycle bin will be permanently deleted. The program in question will no longer be present among those installed on the Mac.
Method 2 of 3: Use an Uninstaller
Step 1. Open a Finder window
Click the blue stylized face icon visible within the System Dock.
Step 2. Go to the Applications folder
It is located inside the left sidebar of the Finder window.
Step 3. Access the folder of the program in question by selecting it with a double click of the mouse
It should contain its uninstaller.

Step 4. Select the uninstaller with a double click of the mouse
A new window will appear.
Step 5. Follow the instructions that will appear on the screen
Since the uninstall procedure varies from program to program, the steps to follow will vary accordingly.
To complete the software uninstallation process, make sure you also select the check button or the "Delete files" option, if available
Method 3 of 3: Using the Launchpad
Step 1. Launch the Launchpad
It features a spaceship icon and is placed directly on the System Dock. You will see a list of all apps currently installed on your computer.
Step 2. Locate the application you wish to remove
Scroll the list that appears to the right or left until you find the one you want to uninstall.
Step 3. Select the icon of the app in question while holding down the mouse button
After a few moments it will start to swing.
Step 4. Click the X icon
It is located in the upper left corner of the icon of the app to uninstall.
If the small shaped badge X is not present in the upper left corner of the app icon, it means that the app has not been installed via the App Store and therefore cannot be removed using the Launchpad.
Step 5. When prompted, press the Delete button
In this way the application in question will be automatically removed from the Mac.
Advice
- Some applications leave traces in the system after uninstallation, in the form of folders where configuration settings, files or other data are stored. If you wish, you can delete these leftover items by accessing the "Library" directory.
- If you have deleted an application that you purchased through the Apple store, you will be able to reinstall it for free at any time via the store.
