This article explains how to prevent your profile from appearing in the list of friends suggested to other users on Facebook. While it's not possible to remove your name completely, you can change your privacy settings to make it appear less often.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Changing the Settings on the Mobile Application
Step 1. Open the Facebook app
The icon looks like a white "f" on a blue background.
If you are not logged in, enter your email address (or phone number) and password, then tap "Log In"
Step 2. Tap ☰ in the lower right (iPhone) or upper right (Android)
Step 3. Scroll down and tap Settings at the bottom of the page
If you are using Android, tap "Account Settings"
Step 4. Tap Account Settings
This option appears at the top of the pop-up menu.
Skip this step if you are using Android
Step 5. Tap Privacy
It is located at the top of the page.
Step 6. Tap Who can see the people, pages and lists you follow?
. It's located under the "My Activities" heading at the top of the page.
Step 7. Tap Only me to make sure you are the only one who can see the people, pages and lists you follow
Step 8. Tap Save at the top right
If you don't see this option, tap the back arrow to the top left
Step 9. Tap Who can send you friend requests?
. It is located in the center of the page.
Step 10. Tap Friends of Friends
Selecting this option will limit the number of people who can send you friend requests, so that only your friends' friends can.
Step 11. Tap Save
Step 12. At the bottom of the page, tap the "Do you want search engines outside Facebook to redirect to your profile?"
".
Step 13. Tap Allow non-Facebook search engines to redirect to your profile at the bottom of the page
Step 14. Tap Confirm
Users will no longer be able to search for you outside of Facebook. Also, now that you have tightened your privacy settings, your name will appear much less in the suggested friends lists. Other users won't be able to see mutual friends or your follower list.
Part 2 of 3: Changing the Privacy Settings on the Computer
Step 1. Open the Facebook website
If you are logged in, you will see the newsfeed.
If you are not logged in, write your e-mail address (or phone number) and password in the top right, then click on "Log in"
Step 2. Click on ▼ at the top right
Step 3. Click on Settings
This option is located almost at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Click on Privacy
It is located in the left bar.
Step 5. Click Edit next to the "Who can send you friend requests?"
The button is located on the right. This section is located more or less in the center of the page dedicated to privacy settings.
Step 6. Click on the All box
It should be under the heading "Who can send you friend requests?".
Step 7. Click Friends of Friends
This will limit the chances of sending you friend requests and you will appear less often in the lists of suggested friends. Only friends of your friends will be able to see you.
Step 8. Click Close
It is located at the top right of the section "How people find and contact you".
Step 9. Click Edit next to the last option on this page, called "Do you want search engines outside Facebook to redirect to your profile?
".
Step 10. Uncheck the "Allow non-Facebook search engines to redirect your profile" box
This way people won't be able to search for you via Google, Bing, or any other search engine outside of Facebook.
Part 3 of 3: Making Your Friends List on Your Computer Private
Step 1. Click on your name at the top of the page
Step 2. Click on Friends
This option is located next to your profile photo.
Step 3. Click on Edit privacy at the top right of the friends list
Step 4. Click on the box next to "Friends List"
It presents various options, including "Everyone" and "Friends".
Step 5. Click Only Me to make sure you are the only one who sees people on your friends list
Step 6. Click the box next to "People / Pages Followed"
Again you will see various options, such as "Everyone" and "Friends".
Step 7. Click on Just me
Step 8. Click Finish at the bottom of the window
From now on Facebook will not show your friends or followers list to the public, so other users will not be able to see you in the suggested friends lists based on those in common.
