If you are a cyclist and you need to replace the crankset (the group consisting of crank arm and chainring) on your bicycle, you are reading the right page! This article will teach you how to replace a crankset without a plug, not a crankset with a plug.
Steps
Step 1. Unscrew the bolt on the side of the crank with a socket wrench
This is often an 8mm hex bolt.
Step 2. Once done, it's time to move the crankset with your hands, or with a hammer, so that it comes out of the spindle in the bottom bracket
The best and easiest way is to use the crankset extractor manufactured by the Park company.
Step 3. If you are using a suitable wrench for the crankset (recommended choice):
tighten the bolt on the spindle firmly with an adjustable wrench before inserting the rest of the tool, to prevent the thread from coming out if you need to push hard to remove the chock.
Step 4. Clean the surface of the spindle and apply some lithium-based grease to prevent the metal parts from friction
Step 5. Insert the new crankset
Step 6. Tighten the bolt to the torque specified in the manual (Shimano's website indicates approximately 34-49 Nm)
Step 7. Do the same on the drive assembly side as well, remembering to loosen the chain
