Contacting record companies can be stressful, but it can also be disheartening when you don't get a response. Find out what you can do.
Steps
Step 1. Make sure your music is great
Listen to it in your car and let your friends judge it. Ask them what they think about that group, without letting them know it's yours.
Step 2. Visit the website
Most of the labels have a website, you can easily contact them or read the FAQ section, to understand where to send your demo. When submitting your demo, be sure to include photos, a slideshow, and media coverage.
Step 3. Don't be disappointed if the label doesn't contact you
The A&R division receives thousands of demos every week. And it is difficult to be able to listen to them all: it will take some time.
Step 4. Make sure you submit your demo to multiple record companies, including independent ones
Sometimes it is better to turn to an independent record company: most of the time they are supported by a major. Either way there are chances that you might get noticed.
Step 5. Think
Why do you like your favorite artist? Here, you have to convince them that you are as good as him or her.
Step 6. Exercise
Only with practice can you improve, the record industry is a race. But if your music doesn't strike first, they won't hear it a second time. Try not to burn yourself with the possibilities, perfect your music before sending it!
Advice
- Don't be too upset if you get a negative response. Let them serve you as a lesson. Criticism helps you grow. Don't think Jay Z or Daddy Yankee got a "Yes" on their first try.
- You can become the new (your favorite artist), all you need to do is work hard!
- Show yourself to the public, just hide behind the lens, you have talent: now show it!
- Make videos; make them funny enough - nobody likes watching boring videos.
