Did you set yourself the goal of reading one book a week this year? Do you have to submit a book report by next week? Whatever the situation you are in, if you want to challenge yourself and read a book in seven days, this article will help you achieve your goal.
Steps
Step 1. Choose a book of reasonable size
Don't go for a ridiculously short volume that you could read in half an hour, or even one that would take you a month. You have to make a reasonable choice. You should also have an idea of the number of pages you read on average. If you read 400-page books in a month, choose one that doesn't exceed 150. But if you are able to take the challenge without holding back, get one that is 300 or 400 pages.
Step 2. Choose an interesting book
A boring one will only make you stop reading. If it's really good, you might even be able to finish it in a few days. To pick an interesting book, turn to one that has been written by your favorite author or has been recommended to you, or read the editorial bellow to see if it sounds interesting to you. If you still have any doubts, read an online review or ask the bookseller or librarian for some ideas and suggestions.
Step 3. Do some calculations
First, find out how many pages the book consists of. To do this, just jump directly to the last page and note the number (for example, 402). Now divide it by 7. This will give you the number of pages you will need to read each day (in this case, 57, 42). If the result is a decimal number, round it up (hence, 58). That way you should finish it a little earlier than the deadline.
Step 4. Read the number of pages you calculated every day
This way you should finish the book on the seventh day. If the book turns out to be really interesting, feel free to read more than the number of pages you have established. This way you will be a bit ahead of your schedule and compensate for a day when you don't find time to read. Having said that, in reality there is always some time to read. If you are really busy and find yourself running late with the program, you run the risk of having to read 137 pages on the seventh day.
Step 5. Find time to read
Are you going to school by train? Read. Don't have much to do at work? Read. Always carry the book with you: you never know when you might have the opportunity to read two or three more pages. Whenever you happen to have half an hour free at home, turn off the TV, smartphone and tablet, and read the book. To read, don't neglect important things like exercise, school, work, or social relationships - otherwise, you may end up isolated. Try to find a balance between reading and the rest of your daily activities.
Advice
- Read in a quiet, comfortable place.
- Take it easy!
- Read as much as you can, but don't do it too quickly - take your time.
- Accompany the reading with a snack, a cup of tea, or something you like.
- Read before bed. You will get the extra benefit of falling asleep much easier.
Warnings
- Don't force yourself to read constantly! If the deadline worries you, remember that you don't have to read the entire book in a week. Instead, you might just read half or a third of them.
- If you don't like the book, stop reading it unless you have to.
