An electronic press kit is essential for any artist looking for exposure and publicity. You can send it to music production houses, clubs, the press or anyone who may be interested in your work. Think of it as your professional resume.
Did you know that most electronic press kits are trashed? Mainly for two reasons: either because they are too extravagant without containing information or because on the contrary they contain too much useless information. Therefore, we need to create a simple and concise folder. Here you will find some tips to help you create one.
Steps
Step 1. Make sure your press kit has the following elements:
personal contacts, biographical notes, some photos, quotes from people about your work, press reviews, information on events or concerts (if possible) and links to your work (audio, video, images or written texts).
Personal contacts: here you must clearly write where you are reachable, telephone number, email, postal address and link to your website (if you have one)
Step 2. Biographical notes must be short
The bio should include where you live and a brief summary of your professional experiences. For musicians or bands, include the members of the group and the instruments played by each. Do not make it too long and above all try not to bore the reader with your difficulties or other unnecessary details.
Step 3. Provide links to your professional experiences:
link to professional video and audio or photos for models, photographers or painters. Make sure the links are working and of good quality.
Step 4. Add professional photos
This is especially true for rock bands, actors or models. Try to do a photo shoot with a professional and put 2 or 3 photos in your press kit.
Step 5. Include some quotes from a professional in your industry who has something positive to say about your work
Don't make the mistake of mentioning friends or family. If you are still starting out, mention your professors.
Step 6. Include the link to your press release (if you have one)
Step 7. Add concert / tour / event information:
Mention past and future concerts / tours or exhibitions (painters / photographers).
