If you want to be successful in high school, university and at work, knowing how to write an argumentative text is an important skill. You may not know what the professor wants exactly, but this text format can help you set up your work correctly. Here you can learn its basic form, to use it later in an exam or for homework.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Plan Your Text

Step 1. Identify your theme

Choose a theme that you know well and that you have no difficulty writing about.

Step 2. Create your thesis

The thesis forms the foundation on which the entire text is based. It must express the main idea of your writing.

Step 3. Give examples to support your thesis

Step 5. Write your text, in five paragraphs

Write your thesis on the top of a piece of paper.
Make a list with the three paragraphs that must prove the thesis.
Write 2/3 examples to support each paragraph.
Sort the examples from best to worst.

Part 2 of 3: Start Writing

Step 1. Write an introduction

It is a sentence that introduces the reader to the topic, before the thesis, which usually corresponds to the second sentence of the paragraph. An example could be: "Paul West was one of fourteen boys who was abandoned on a desert island in the Caribbean". The thesis will be written after this introduction, and will be "Paul West was a dynamic character, as well as the leader of the group".

Step 2. Write the first 3 paragraphs

Each of these must support your thesis. Write examples to make your ideas truthful. Use the best examples in the beginning.

Step 3. Connect the sentences together

Each paragraph must be linked with the appropriate phrases. For example, you can write: "Paul West was the leader of the group not only because he was admired, but also because his followers were afraid of him."

Step 4. Write a conclusion

The conclusion should reinforce your thesis and the three parameters you have chosen. For example: "From these data we can assert that Paul, initially shy, honest and naive, turns out to be a dynamic character throughout the novel."

Part 3 of 3: Make Changes

Step 1. Review your text to correct any grammar or writing errors

Step 2. Check that your writing is fluid, and that the paragraphs are well connected

Step 3. Make sure each paragraph supports your thesis, without going off topic

Advice

Comply with the teacher's requests, to get a better grade.
If you have to write the text as a homework assignment, ask the teacher if what you want to write is correct.
If you have writer's block, take a 2/3 minute break.
Give yourself time to organize the text before writing it.
If the professor is unwilling or unable to help you, look for another one.
