They may have taught you how to "tie" shoelaces, but have you ever really been shown how to "put on shoelaces"? Using different methods to pass the laces through your shoes is a great way to personalize them, especially if you buy them in different colors and patterns. This article will show you some of the more common methods.
Steps
Method 1 of 6: Crisscross
Step 1. Keep the shoe with the toe away from you
Starting with the two opposite holes closest to the tip, pull each end of the lace through from the inside. Make sure both ends of the laces are identical.
Step 2. Start crossing the laces
Working diagonally, pass the right end of the lace through the next loop left, from inside to outside. Alternatively, you can run the lace from the outside to the inside. This way the look will be slightly neater.
Step 3. Insert the left end of the lace into the next right loop
Step 4. Continue to pass the laces up to the last loops
Step 5. Create a bow
Tie the laces using the methods described below.
Method 2 of 6: Straight
Step 1. Thread one end of the lace through the last hole on the right (closest to the toe) and the other end into the first hole on the left (closest to the heel)
Only the string needed to tie the bow should come out of the left hole.
Step 2. Thread the right lace into the opposite hole (the one on the left side) in a straight line from the inside to the outside
Step 3. Thread the lace through the next right hole
Make sure you run it from the inside out.
Step 4. Continue lacing horizontally
Always working with the same end of the lace, pass it horizontally through the holes until you reach the last hole.
Step 5. Tie the remaining garments with a bow
Method 3 of 6: Lock the Heels
If your heels slip into your shoes, this method can help you fix the problem.
Step 1. Lace up your shoes using the crisscross method, pausing before going through the last hole
Step 2. Take the lace on one side and pass it through the hole on the same side
Do the same thing with the other lace.
Step 3. Insert the left lace through the loop created on the right side
Step 4. Repeat with the other lace
Step 5. Tie the laces as you normally would
Method 4 of 6: Straight Lacing (Alternative)
This method is suitable for footwear with 5 pairs of holes.
Step 1. Start on the left side of the tab
Thread one end of the lace through the first loop on the left side and pull until there is approximately 6 inches of lace left.
Step 2. Pull the lace from the inside to the outside of the second loop
Step 3. Pass it from the outside to the inside of the opposite second eyelet
Step 4. Run it from the inside to the outside in the fifth hole on the right
Step 5. Pass it from the outside to the inside in the fifth hole on the left
Step 6. Feed it from the inside into the fourth hole
Step 7. Pass it from the outside into the opposite fourth hole
Step 8. Feed it from the inside into the third hole
Step 9. Pass it from the outside into the opposite third hole
Step 10. Feed it from the inside into the first free hole
Step 11. Adjust the length of the laces
If at the end of the operation one end of the lace is longer than the other, fold the additional amount of the longer lace in half, and put it together with the shorter end, reversing the procedure to restore the same length to the laces.
Step 12. Tie the remaining garments with a bow
Method 5 of 6: Lattice
Step 1. Pull the lace straight through so that it comes out from the inside of both eyelets closest to the toe
Step 2. Cross the garments on top of each other
Then run them up and diagonally and insert them from the outside into the fourth set of holes (skipping two).
Step 3. Pull both ends directly inside
They should emerge from the next set of eyelets towards the heel of the shoe.
Step 4. Cross the ends again
Then run them down diagonally to the outside and insert them into the third set of holes (skipping two of them forward).
Step 5. Pull both ends straight inside
They should come out through the next set of holes towards the heel of the shoe.
Step 6. Cross the garments one last time
Then pass them diagonally upwards by inserting them from the outside into the highest set of eyelets (skipping two sets of loops).
Method 6 of 6: Tie the Bow
Step 1. Keep both ends of the lace straight
Pull the right garment over the left, then bring the left over the right and through the ring. Pull both ends.
Step 2. Hold the right head and form a ring
Put your finger in the ring to hold it in place. Bring the left head over the right, and pass it under in a circular motion.
Step 3. Bring the left garment inside the small ring
Pull hard.
