Does the huge choice of bed linen disorient you? Are you undecided between two alternatives? If so, read on!
Steps
Step 1. Determine the size of the sheets you need
Sheets for double and king-size beds are some of the easiest to find, while sheets for single-and-a-half or California king beds are more difficult to find. Single bed sheet sets are usually available for children's beds or single beds. Some beds used in campsites or university dorms are "extra long", so it may be necessary to order sheets of the appropriate size.
Step 2. Think about the theme you want
Would you like simple striped, polka dot or floral patterned sheets? If you've already furnished the bedroom, consider the theme - and especially the color of the walls. Remember that sheets are the first thing you notice when entering a bedroom, so consider your choice carefully.
Step 3. Pay attention to the material the sheets are made of
Cotton and cotton blends are usually the best choices. Flannel will keep you warm in winter, however, if the temperature in the house is already high (at least 15 ° C or more), you will be too hot. Polyester satin sheets may seem like a good idea at first, however they are tacky and uncomfortable.
Step 4. If you buy cotton sheets, pay attention to the texture of the fabric
You can choose a very fine woven fabric, sateen or satin. Sateen fabric is soft to the touch, although it is not recommended to use it every day as it is less durable than other fabrics, such as satin, so it is perfect for the guest room. Satin looks great and is perfect for pillow cases (it is softer on the hair), but not for bed sheets as it is a slippery, non-breathable and non-absorbent fabric like normal or very fine textures.
Step 5. Check the "number of wires" on the label
The number of threads refers to the density of the threads used in the weave per square centimeter. The higher the number of threads, the more expensive the sheets are (because more finely spun material is needed to make them) and the better the quality. A minimum thread count should be around 175-200, however, for a softer fabric to the touch, opt for 350. Beware of sheets that claim to have a very high thread count, as these may be materials woven together. and then intertwined; the label may read "500 threads", but the feeling is that of 250.
Step 6. Most sheet sets contain a fitted sheet, a top sheet, and one or two pillow cases
You will also need to buy a blanket and / or duvet.
Step 7. There are many models of duvets on the market:
with removable or non-removable pillowcases. Choose a duvet that matches the sheets and walls of the bedroom and that best suits the way you usually wash your laundry.
Step 8. Washing
Some duvets can be washed in your washing machine if the drum is large enough. Others, on the other hand, must be dry cleaned or in laundromats (which often have more capacious washing machines suitable for this purpose). Follow the washing instructions on the label carefully. If you wash your comforter at home or in a laundromat, don't use harsh detergents and set up an extra rinse. Put one or two tennis balls in the dryer and let it dry for 3-4 hours.
Advice
- Choose the linen you like best!
- Avoid ordering on the internet. The sheets may look different than they really are.
- The most important thing to remember is to choose the softest and most comfortable fabric.
- For tidy sheets and for a precise and luxurious hotel-style effect, take them to the laundry room and have them washed and folded.
- Whichever style you like best, it's a good idea to choose sheets that provide a good foundation for decorating the rest of the room.
