There are not enough positive adjectives to describe nachos. In their most classic form they are spicy, creamy, crunchy, delicious and slightly acidic and, thanks to their versatility, they can quickly turn into the favorite food of many. Keep in mind the three basic concepts of taste - creamy, crunchy, layered - and then let your culinary creativity run wild. This article contains instructions for preparing classic nachos, barbecue sauce nachos and dessert version nachos.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Classic Nachos
Step 1. Get the ingredients
The classic recipe enhances the flavors of the two main ingredients: corn chips and cheese. Prepare the foundation of your dish and then enrich it as you wish. Have the following ingredients on hand:
- Corn chips: or wheat chips, choose a product that is as fresh as possible. The perfect chip is thick enough to hold several layers of toppings, but is just as light so as not to overpower the flavors.
- Cheese: cheddar is cassico, but mozzarella, fontina or your favorite cheese will be just as good; if it can be chopped, it will taste great. If you wish, mix different cheeses, of different colors.
- Sauce: your choice. The classic sauce is pico de gallo.
- Sour Cream: Sour cream gives the nachos some of its umami and balances the presence of the spices.
- Pickled Jalapenos Peppers: Available in most well-stocked supermarkets. Avoid this ingredient if you don't like spicy, but know that it is essential for the classic recipe!
- Beans: Black or refried beans are the most common choices. Adding these ingredients will make the nachos heavier.
- Meat: seasoned minced meat or shredded chicken. Adding some well-cooked and seasoned meat, while optional, can make the nachos more appetizing.
Step 2. Place fries in the center of a pan
If you prefer, use an ovenproof dish or cake pan. If you plan to use the microwave, make sure the material is suitable for the purpose.
Step 3. Add the cheese
Sprinkle a generous amount of cheese on the nachos. Try to distribute it evenly to season all the chips.
Step 4. Cook the nachos
The final flavor will be great, whether you decide to use the classic oven or the microwave. Choose one of the following cooking methods:
- Grill them in the oven. Place the nachos about 6 inches away from the top coil of the oven and grill them until the cheese is melted. This will normally take about 5 minutes. Be careful not to burn the cheese. Remove the nachos from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
- Use the microwave. Heat them on high power for 2 minutes. Remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
Step 5. Season the nachos
Add the sour cream by spreading it evenly around the center of the nachos with a teaspoon. Add the jalapenos and then sprinkle the ingredients with the sauce.
Step 6. Serve them and enjoy them in company
Distribute the napkins to each diner; forks are prohibited. Choose your chip, dip it in sour cream, use it to scoop up a jalapeno, and then eat it.
- Classic nachos pair perfectly with many of your favorite ingredients, such as meats and vegetables. Top choices include ground beef, grilled chicken or beef, stir-fried mushrooms, finely sliced raw onion, black olives, and lettuce.
- Individual portions can be served in small plates or bowls; remember to divide the fries and melted cheese before adding any more toppings.
Method 2 of 3: Nachos with Barbecue Sauce
Step 1. Get the ingredients
Nachos with barbecue sauce are an alternative to classic nachos made with regular potato chips. The recipe calls for the use of potato chips topped with a delicious barbecue sauce. Go to the supermarket and get the following ingredients:
- Chips in a bag: choose the flavor you prefer, plain or flavored.
- Cheese: Cheddar or grated pepper, create a combination of both if desired.
- Salsa: For this dish the pico de gallo sauce is the sure winner, any other type of sauce would hardly match the barbecue sauce.
- Sour Cream: You can omit this ingredient if you wish, although it is surprisingly delicious when paired with barbecue sauce.
-
Barbecue Sauce: You can find it in every supermarket.
- Chicken or pork: cut into small pieces and stripped of the bones.
- You can create a vegetarian dish by replacing the meat with peppers or beans.
Step 2. Arrange the fries on a baking sheet
Choose a material suitable for the chosen cooking, in the classic oven or in the microwave oven. Cover the entire surface of the pan with several layers of chips.
Step 3. Sprinkle them with cheese
Try to distribute it evenly and season all the chips.
Step 4. Cook the chips
If you have decided to grill them, place them about 6 inches away from the top coil of the oven and grill them until the cheese is melted. This will normally take about 5 minutes. Be careful not to burn the cheese. If you're using the microwave, heat them on high for 2 minutes. Remove the fries from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
Step 5. Season the chips
Pour spoonfuls of sour cream and salsa over the chips. Create a heap of barbecue sauce in the middle. Spread the other toppings on the sides.
Step 6. Serve them and enjoy them
Since these chips are served with the meat, provide your guests with forks and napkins. Serve the chips on individual plates and accompany them with extra toppings.
Method 3 of 3: Dessert Nachos
Step 1. Get the ingredients
This dessert is perfect for finishing off a Mexican-style meal. The flavors of sugar and cinnamon pair perfectly with wheat flour tortillas. Get the following ingredients for preparation:
- Wheat flour nachos. Choose a fresh, light and crunchy product. If possible, use unsalted nachos, although the contrast between the sugar and salt might be nice.
- 2 tablespoons of white sugar
- ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 110 g of butter, melted
- Chocolate Syrup
- Caramel Syrup
- Whipped Cream
Step 2. Melt the butter
Put a saucepan on the stove and slowly melt the butter. Use a medium heat and let it melt completely. Alternatively, you can melt the butter in the microwave.
Step 3. Pour the butter over the nachos
Arrange the nachos in a large bowl and toss with the melted butter. Do your best to distribute the butter evenly. Gently move the nachos with the kitchen tongs to season them best.
Step 4. Add cinnamon and sugar
In a bowl, mix the cinnamon and sugar, then spread them evenly over the nachos. Move the nachos with the tongs to make sure they come in contact with the spiced sugar.
Step 5. Arrange the nachos on a baking sheet
Distribute them in a single layer so they don't overlap excessively.
Step 6. Cook your nachos
Place the pan in the oven and cook the nachos for a few minutes, until they are golden and crunchy.
Step 7. Serve your dessert
Arrange the nachos on a large plate. Top with the chocolate and caramel syrup. Add a small amount of whipped cream to the center of the plate. Invite your diners to serve themselves.
- If you prefer, divide the nachos into individual portions.
- This dessert is excellent accompanied with ice cream, especially with chocolate or vanilla flavors.
