If you've ever woken up late in the morning, you know that dry shampoo is very practical for refreshing your hair even if you don't have time to wash it. Commercially available ones can do wonders for fixing greasy and unkempt hair, but you can make your own at home using the simplest ingredients you probably already have on hand.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Make Corn Starch Dry Shampoo
Step 1. Get a small container with a pitted cap:
you will need it to store dry shampoo. The ideal would be to use a salt or pepper shaker, but a cheese bowl would also be fine.
Step 2. Clean the container
Unscrew and remove the cap. Before pouring in the dry shampoo ingredients, remove the impurities with warm soapy water.
Once the container has been washed, place it upside down on a paper towel to allow it to dry completely
Step 3. Once dry, pour the dry shampoo ingredients into it using a funnel
Measure 40 g of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Remove the funnel and cover the opening of the container with one hand. Holding it firmly, shake it gently for about 5 seconds.
- Shaking the container allows you to mix the cornstarch and baking soda well;
- Corn starch can be replaced with maranta starch: both of these ingredients have properties that allow it to absorb sebum.
Step 4. Secure the cap by snapping or screwing it on
Make sure the container is tightly closed, without any cracks or irregularities.
If you don't close it tightly, you run the risk of spilling all the dry shampoo on your head the moment you try to dust it
Method 2 of 3: Prepare Bentonite Clay Dry Shampoo
Step 1. Mix the dry ingredients
Pour 1 cup of bentonite clay and 1 cup of maranta starch into a medium bowl. Stir with a spoon until the mixture is smooth.
Step 2. Mix the dry ingredients, add 5-10 drops of an essential oil of your choice
Mix again to obtain a homogeneous mixture. The more essential oil you use, the stronger the scent of the shampoo will be.
- This step is not mandatory to prepare the dry shampoo, but it makes it pleasantly scented;
- Some of the most used oils are those of peppermint, lavender and chamomile.
Step 3. Pour the dry shampoo into a container using a funnel
The ideal would be to use a salt or pepper shaker. However, make sure the container is new, otherwise wash it thoroughly with soap and water.
-
Make sure the container is completely dry before you pour the shampoo into it.
- The holes in the cap allow you to exert greater control when sprinkling the dry shampoo on the hair roots.
Step 4. Tightly secure the cap and start using the shampoo
Check that there are no gaps between the opening of the container and the cap, so as to avoid spilling it all during use.
Method 3 of 3: Prepare Dry Shampoo for Dark Hair
Step 1. Mix the dry ingredients
In a medium-sized bowl, pour 40 g of maran starch or 40 g of cornstarch and 1 or 2 teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder. Mix well with a spoon.
Cocoa powder helps mask the powder on dark hair
Step 2. Add about 5 drops of the essential oil of your choice
Mix the ingredients again with a spoon until the mixture is smooth.
Step 3. Pour the dry shampoo into a small container
Use a funnel and proceed with care. At the end of the procedure, fix the container with the cap and check for any cracks.
Try to use a salt shaker, a pepper shaker or similar container, the important thing is that it has a cap with holes. This allows you to sprinkle the dry shampoo on the hair roots in a precise and delicate way
Advice
- Apply dry shampoo to a sink to make it easier to pick up any spilled residue.
- Sprinkle the dry shampoo on your hair, brush it to distribute it and prevent it from leaving visible residue.
- Try to apply it before bed, then pull your hair up in a bun. This way the dry shampoo will have more time to absorb the sebum from the scalp.
- If you have red or auburn hair, try substituting cinnamon for cocoa powder so that the dry shampoo camouflages itself better.
