Rice glue is often used to glue origami. Its advantages are its tightness and transparency once dry, which make it ideal for paper creations. You can find rice glue at oriental supply stores or you can make it yourself. In this article we will learn how to make rice glue at home and how to store it in a jar in the fridge.
Ingrediants
For two cups of glue:
- A cup of rice (preferably starchy, such as basmati or sushi rice)
- 3-4 cups of water
Steps
Step 1. Pour all the ingredients into a saucepan
Bring to a boil.
Step 2. Lower the heat and simmer for 45 minutes
Step 3. Check the consistency
It must look like a puree. If the rice grains have not yet flaked, add more water and continue cooking.
Step 4. Once it has the right consistency, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool
Step 5. Strain the rice to remove the larger pieces
Alternatively, you can blend the mixture (you may need to add more water). Pour the result into a jar.
Step 6. Store in the fridge
When you need to use it, take it out of the jar with a brush.
