In Animal Crossing, your city's population naturally changes over time as some animals leave and others arrive. However, in some cases the natural course of things is too slow and you want to get rid of a particular inhabitant. You can try a few strategies to do this, but the results are not guaranteed and the steps involved are rather random. In some cases, you just need to ignore him, in others you will have to talk to him often. Either way, if you really want to get a citizen to relocate, there are ways to speed things up.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Get a Villager to Leave

Step 1. Travel through time

This trick allows you to abuse the cycle of time by advancing two days, then going back 48 hours, speeding up normal game events. This way, some animals will go away on their own.

  • Be careful, time travel has other consequences. It is possible that using this method will lead you to lose a resident you care about, especially if you do not check their status well, so that you find that they are considering moving.
  • To find out the intentions of your fellow citizens, talk to them, perhaps more than once, by pressing "A" to hear new gossip or to know directly if someone is thinking of leaving.
  • Remember, you must wait until at least eight other animals have joined your city before attempting to relocate a villager. This means that if you are just starting a new game, you have to wait a few days for the population to naturally increase before you can get the unwanted guest to pack.

Step 2. Ignore the animal

This method is the simplest. Try to completely ignore the resident you want to move. Don't talk to him, just keep playing normally and let the time go by. If all goes according to plan, another citizen will give you the news that the one you are ignoring is planning to move and you will have confirmation that the strategy worked.

  • Be careful: if you talk to the pet you ignored after receiving the news that he wants to leave, he will stay, no matter what you tell him.
  • For example, if you've been particularly mean to an animal in the last few days and ignored it, the "Good luck!" could be replaced by "Who are you ?!". By selecting it, you would convince him to stay.

Step 3. Talk to the pet often

Even the opposite method to the previous one, that is to give preference to an inhabitant, seems to produce the desired result. To try this way, you just need to talk to the citizen many times a day, more than all the others, by pressing "A".

Step 1. Recruit other animals

As mentioned above, if there are fewer than 8 inhabitants in the city, new tenants will naturally arrive. You don't have to do anything to achieve this. However, you can get specific characters using the villager exchange or the public camping blueprint.

Step 2. Build the campsite

By doing so, the animals will visit your city and you can persuade them to move.

  • The campsite is available in the public works list. To build it, sit in the mayor's chair and select it from the list.
  • Once the campsite is built, you cannot destroy it, so choose its location carefully!

Step 3. Travel through time

If you want a specific pet, you can again make use of time travel. Check out the city after a few days, when you think it's time for a new inhabitant to arrive.

Look for a post indicating that a new resident is about to arrive. Check the name. If it is the animal you want, you are lucky and can advance the time. If not, go back a few days, reload the game and you should find a different name

Advice

  • To convince a resident to stay in the city when he wants to leave, talk to him and say "Don't go!".
  • The closer the date the resident will leave, the more likely they are to move regardless of what you tell them.
  • If you talk to the resident who wants to leave, he will tell you what date he plans to move. That day, he will pack his bags and leave.
  • A few days after a resident leaves, you should see a new animal arrive in the city.
