Do embarrassing suggestions appear every time you write something on a search engine? Google and Bing keep your searches to speed up results, and browsers keep both data to fill in forms automatically and your browsing history. All these things put together can bring nasty surprises when you are browsing in the company of friends or family. Avoid moments of embarrassment by deleting your search history before it's too late.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Delete your Google Search History
Step 1. Open the Google Web History page
Search history is linked to your Google account. You can see your history by going to history.google.com.
You will be prompted to enter your Google password again, even if you are already logged in
Step 2. Delete individual elements
When you first go to the Web History page, you will see a list with all your latest searches from the last few days. Click the checkbox next to each item you want to remove, and then click the "Remove Items" button. Searches in this way will be dissociated from your Google account.
Step 3. Completely delete all search history
If you want to remove all web history, click the wheel icon in the upper right corner of the Web History page. Select Settings from the menu. Click on the "delete completely" link that you find within the paragraph of text. You will be asked if you are sure you want to delete everything.
Google does not recommend deleting all web history as it uses past searches to give you more personalized results
Step 4. Turn off Web History
You can disable the option to keep search history by clicking on "Disable" in the Settings. This will prevent Google from associating searches with your account. This option will impact Google Now and other Google products.
Part 2 of 3: Deleting the Search History on Bing
Step 1. Open the Bing home page
Make sure you're signed in with your Microsoft account. You can log in by clicking on the "Log in" link in the top right corner.
Step 2. Click on the "Search History" button
You can find it on the main bar with menus or under your name.
Step 3. Delete single elements
Your recent searches will appear on the main section of the History page. Go to the items you want to remove and click on the "X" to delete them.
Step 4. Clear all search history
To delete your entire search history, click the "Clear All" button to the right of recent searches. You will be asked to confirm that you want to remove all history.
Step 5. Turn off your search history
If you don't want your searches associated with your Microsoft account, click the "Deactivate" button to the right of your recent searches. Future searches will not be associated with your account until you reactivate the option.
Part 3 of 3: Delete on Browser
Step 1. Delete the Auto Complete
Internet Explorer retains previous searches and form data to provide suggestions when you write something new. This thing, unlike the search history, is saved on the browser, so be sure to delete this data as well.
Step 2. Delete your browsing history
Browsing history and search history are two different things. Browsing history is the record of all the sites you have visited. This log is located on the computer locally and can be easily deleted.
