Google Chrome is an extremely popular web browser used by people all over the world. One of the things people love so much about Chrome is that it can be customized to suit personal tastes. You can customize everything related to the browser down to the download settings, which are used to manage any type of download on your computer. They are perfect in case you want to redirect downloads or change the way they are saved. On Chrome, you can make changes to these settings in just a few steps to suit your needs.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Access the Download Settings
Step 1. Launch Google Chrome
Before changing the download settings, you will need to open your web browser. To do this, you will need to click on its icon, either on your desktop or from the Start menu.
The icon is a red, green and yellow ring with a blue circle in the middle
Step 2. Go to the Settings menu
Once the browser is open, check the box on the upper right side of the browser with 3 lines inside. This will allow you to view a drop-down menu. From the menu, go down to "Settings" and click.
Step 3. Go to 'Advanced Settings'
By clicking on "Settings", a new tab will open with all the different settings of your browser within the window. If you scroll down, there is a blue button that says "View advanced settings"; click on this link.
Step 4. Select "Download" from the menu
Opening "Advanced Settings" will load a long list of settings. While the browser loads the settings, scroll down until you see a sub-item that says "Download".
There are two settings you can adjust under "Download"
Part 2 of 2: Change the Download Settings
Step 1. Decide if you want a default download folder
The first settings concern the location where downloaded files are saved. Select this option if you want all downloaded files to be saved in the default folder. The name of that folder will appear in the white box next to the option.
- If you want to change the default folder, click on the gray "Change" box next to the option. Use the window that will appear to navigate through the folders until you find the one you want to use, then click "OK" to set it as default.
- It is recommended that you change the folder where your downloads are saved if you are sharing your computer with others.
Step 2. Decide if you want to select where to save each individual download
The next setting under "Download" is a checkbox. You can click inside the box to choose where to put each single download instead of having them all downloaded in a single folder.
This option is best if you keep your downloads organized by type
Step 3. Exit the 'Download Settings' menu
When you're done setting options, just close the menu. There is no need to save them further: after changing the settings, they change automatically.
