Sneaking out of the house can be risky, but if you know how to do it, everything will be fine. Make sure you follow these steps correctly!
Steps
Step 1. Decide in advance where you will go and who you will meet, or at least try to be with someone while trying to sneak out
(The girl / boy / friends, as long as there are not too many people or you will attract attention).
Step 2. Plan exactly how to go out, where to go and how long it will take (do it during the day when no one sees you)
Don't write it down on a piece of paper, your parents might see it. Try to plan everything in mind:
- The places to pass, such as fences, terraces, illuminated points and hidden corners.
- Blind spots from neighbors' windows
- Natural unforeseen events that can occur, such as the weather and the phases of the moon
- The time you will go out
- The method of leaving the house. It must be silent.
- Consider the sounds of the neighbors' animals and try to avoid them.
- The path chosen to reach the destination.
- The path to go home
- The method of returning home.
- Stay away from main roads.
- Estimate the time it will take you to do this.
- Excuses, plans B, things you will need, etc.
Step 3. Prepare yourself physically and psychologically for the big night
Eat two hours before and drink at least one hour before. Get dressed 15 minutes before going out, not too early because otherwise you risk getting caught by your parents. When you are finished dressing, drink an energizer, it contains caffeine and complex sugars. Pack a bag with all the stuff you will need but don't make it too heavy or it will pack you up. Dress appropriately:
- Black: It is usually not a color that occurs in nature. It only works on asphalt and parking lots.
- Slate Gray: Great for blending into concrete walls and other urban settings.
- Dark blue: Coincides with the generic color of the night, it allows greater versatility in most environments.
- Military green: Excellent for both dense and sparse foliage, in a peripheral context you can hide in the bushes and grass more easily. An appropriate choice.
- Khaki color: Great for hiding in dry leaves or in desert areas.
- White: Great for snow, a white dress with black and gray dots works best.
- Brown: Great for moving between spacious areas with plant-free soils.
Step 4. Get out of the house without arousing suspicion
Each house is different, so you will have to figure out how to do it yourself. Make sure you walk quietly and avoid the creaking spots on the floor. Don't trip over any furniture, you could get hurt and make noise. Bring everything you might need with you. For example, money, flashlight, pocket knife, etc.
Leave a screwdriver or spread knife in the window or door to leave it open so you won't be locked inside. Bring the key to the front door, you never know. If you sleep on the second floor, consider getting yourself a rope fire escape. Place soft toys under the sheets to simulate the shape of your body. Leave the door as it usually is to keep your parents from getting suspicious, don't lock it! Leave a note saying that you are fine and that there is no need to call the police, in case they find that you have left
Step 5. Bring a watch
Make sure you always know what time it is, and how long it takes you to get to and from your chosen place. Make sure you come back at least an hour earlier than the time your parents usually wake up.
Step 6. Go out quietly and breathe in the cool, humid night air
Take a moment to appreciate the sound of crickets and traffic in the distance, raise your eyes to the sky and look at the moon with the clouds passing through it and the stars. This sets you up psychologically and teaches you to be silent like a ninjia and to be part of nature. Spend a few moments in the garden and enjoy the night if you are nervous. It will help you calm down, and you will feel more ready when you step outside.
Step 7. Start sneaking around
Now that you're out in the garden, it's time to rock. Keep low, silent and alert. Look behind you and walk silently.
Step 8. Sneak back into the house, the same way you went outside
Remember, it is easier to get caught on your way in than on your way out. Do not be reckless thinking that you have already made it. Be quiet and make sure you close the door you entered to not make your parents suspicious.
Step 9. Keep some caffeine or something else in your room to keep you awake
Your parents may get suspicious if you wake up after noon (unless you do it normally) or if you are extremely tired after a night's sleep. Drink an energizer or a carbonated drink with caffeine so as not to seem too tired.
Advice
- You can tell when a car is approaching even if you don't see it. Just listen to the noise, or if it is around the corner just notice the lights reflected on the road or in the fog.
- Bring extra cash, you may need to call home in an emergency or if you need to buy something to eat.
- Try to rely more on your brain than on your means.
- If you have to hide, remember that people usually don't look up or down.
- You can sneak out of the house all year long, as long as you dress appropriately. Remember that while you are out you may sweat and dehydrate for the first ten minutes, but your bare arms can be easily seen. If you rest for 5 minutes you may feel cold again.
- Don't touch anything unnecessarily, act like it's daylight and you're going out for a walk. Doors are a better choice than windows. An open window is much more visible than an unlocked door, so try to always choose the doors and never the windows (unless it's a sliding window).
- If you think someone has noticed you but you are not sure, crouch and immobilize! You need the darkness to hide yourself. If you stay still you will be less likely to be noticed.
- If your parents are monitoring you because you've already sneaked out before, use pillows, soft toys, or sheets to create a shape inside the bed. If they check you closely put a wig or doll with hair of your color near the head of the bed.
-
The 2D human theory states that humans are two-dimensional creatures, and that we look for other humans at the floor level. If someone is looking for you, hide on a roof or drain, as they are on different levels. But don't hide in the trees. If you are seen there you will not be able to go anywhere and if you think you will jump you could get hurt. You can also throw a stone to distract someone. Don't make any noise as you throw it, or you will be detected right away.
- If you want to hide on a roof don't choose a house with the lights on, stay low and make sure you have more than one escape route. Some roofs are steeper than others. Do not go near street lights or under direct moonlight.
- If you want to hide in a ditch or canal, remember to stay there until those looking for you have not gone. If you live in a densely populated area you may need something that covers you, such as leaves or generally something that blends in with the color of the environment. Be careful, as someone could fall into it.
- Bring a change of clothes, preferably light colored (khaki pants and a polo shirt should be fine). If you work (or have worked) for a company that stays open late and has a work uniform (like a large distribution company), bring that. Also bring a bricklayer helmet and reflective vest to look like a workman, if you look big enough to look like us. Try to appear local wherever you are.
- Being trained and in good physical shape helps, it is more important to be resistant and flexible than strong. Better to know how to run than to know how to fight.
- People can notice you because of your shape, your shade or your color. If you dress appropriately you eliminate these attributes, help yourself by staying in the darkest shadows and moving slowly.
- If you are a teenager and your room is in the basement, use the window furthest from your parents' room. If you are on the second floor, remember that the windows make noise when opening and closing and take a long time. If you still want to get out of the window and there is another window sill, use a stool or a box. If the walls are wooden or otherwise smooth, try to get someone you trust to help you get out and back in.
- The white noise generated by a fan can help.
- Consider the idea of wearing civilian clothes to be able to disguise your stunt if you need it. If you wear a dark green or navy blue shirt, a black hat and dark green or navy blue pants will do just fine! It may seem like a great idea to wear dark jeans, but it isn't. Jeans don't blend in with the natural color of the night and could make you look like a burglar (even if you're not) due to TV stereotypes.
- Use a lot of fabric softener when washing clothes to make them quieter.
- In the outlying areas you can find refuge among the cars or in the bushes, always check if the way is clear, go from cover to cover and repeat the process. Always be on the alert.
- Record the way you snore or breathe while you sleep on your cell phone or digital recorder so your parents think you're sleeping.
- Stay away from the light as much as possible!
Warnings
- Use the flashlight only if necessary, the light could ruin your night vision and drain your batteries.
- Don't carry guns with you (nothing illegal), if you get caught you could end up in much worse trouble, and if you live in a dangerous area where you have to walk around armed, don't sneak out of the house.
- Make sure you turn off any motion sensor lights before you leave (note: turn them back on when you get back to prevent your parents from getting suspicious)
- Don't talk to your folks about sneaking out of the house and don't ask them for stuff to do it. They would get suspicious. If you play paintball or airsoft you can use it as an excuse for the uniform.
- Avoid wearing flashy colors or fluorescent uniforms.
- Remember, don't leave any clues. It is easier to get out if the window is fully raised.
- Don't go near it and don't talk to dangerous-looking people. Stay alert and don't be caught off guard by anyone!
- Don't go on unfamiliar roads, otherwise you won't be able to recognize any hiding spots and the best routes. This means that you may be noticed more easily. Also remember that if someone sees you near your home, they are more likely to know it's you.
- Be very careful when passing through heavily trafficked streets. Stay as far away from the road as possible to be able to hide immediately if you hear footsteps or approaching cars. Make sure you are not in places where the light from the headlights could hit you.
- Try not to make noise, otherwise people will call the police. Bushes that are shaking may be the work of some animal or the wind, but if there is too much noise, people could look out of the windows. But remember that people don't call the police if they hear someone passing by.
- Don't bring MP3 players or iPods. If you listen to music you are unable to hear sounds and noises around you. How else could you be discreet if you can't hear noises or are too focused to notice them?
- Don't wear any disguises, except it's something people usually wear, or if they catch you they'll quickly know you're trying to sneak out. Disguises eliminate all alibis, but give you a greater chance of not getting caught.
-
If you are seen by someone and you are sure it has happened, you have a few options:
- Run! BUT ONLY DO IT IF THEY HAVE NOT RECOGNIZED YOU. Just sow them or run until they give up. Do not enter the street and pass through the alleys so as not to be followed by car. NEVER RUN HOME, they could follow you and you would be totally screwed.
- Use an alibi like "my dog ran away this morning and I couldn't sleep so I came back here to look for him but I didn't want anyone to see me." Prepare answers to questions they might ask (the dog's name, what time it happened) if they're curious or want to know if you're lying. If it's a boy or a teenager you could just tell the truth and hope they don't call the police. Check to see if they take out their cell phones as you walk away.
- If you consume too much sugar, you could stay in shape for a couple of hours, but then you would suffer a drastic drop in sugar, which is not a good thing.
- Don't try to break in or break into houses, or draw graphites. You can have fun without vandalizing anything.
- If the police come, stop and tell them the truth. You could get in trouble if you are violating a curfew, but if there is no curfew you are not committing any crime. Or pretend you are just walking down the street (see the “Tips” section). If they understand or if they know you sneaked out, you'll have less trouble if you don't lie.
- Don't run away if you've been seen by cops.
- Do not go out after curfew if you are not old enough to do so. If the curfew is at 11 and you are seen at 10:50 you are not committing any crime. You can also wait for it to stop, but be careful! It is not a night operation if the sun is shining!
For Beginners
- It is usually not against the law to roam the streets at night. Only the most paranoid neighbors pay attention to someone walking down the street at 2am.
- Mobile phone (to check the time and for emergencies)
- A small flashlight
- House keys
- Shoes - boots for climbing and tennis shoes for running and hiding
- Clock
- First aid equipment (in case of accidents), gauze, tweezers and sterilizing wipes are enough to treat minor injuries. Wrap them in toilet paper so they don't make a noise.
- Extra money
- Don't carry around too much material, it could make you discover.
- If you are caught not being suspicious, calmly answer the questions.
For the Experts
- Something that covers your head. A balaclava takes up most of the face but makes you suspicious and can be hot. A wool cap is perfect, but you can also use a regular hat. Do not use sunglasses, they make night vision worse and reflect light. Alternatively, you can use a mask or disguise.
- A small telescope with pouch
- Belt
- A flashlight pouch
- A compass. If you plan to go to a forest it will come in handy.
- First aid equipment (in case of accidents), gauze, tweezers and sterilizing wipes are enough to treat minor injuries. Wrap them in toilet paper so they don't make a noise.
- Additional batteries for the flashlight - optional.
- Food - for long operations.
- A bottle of water. If you are sure there are no drinking fountains around. Bring it either completely full or completely empty to keep it from making noise.
- A rope, to use as a lasso or to climb.
