Punk pop music (which should not be confused with punk pop music: Sum 41, Avril Lavigne, etc.) is more melodic and "catchy" than its original, punk rock, born in the late seventies. Punk pop has also generated its own legion of fans - if you want to be one of them, read the article.
Steps
Step 1. There are no real strategies for becoming a pop punker, in truth you just have to enjoy the music - although this may make you look more like a "pop-punk"
Remember, don't conform to the stereotype, and first of all try to figure out if this is your genre. It is a mental factor.
Step 2. Ask yourself if being "punk-pop" means anything to you
Nobody wants big changes and then having to deal with parental complaints, so only do it if you really believe in it.
Step 3. Start using phrases like:
"Highly complaining and overrated".
Step 4. Wear t-shirts from "punk-pop" or "real punk" bands, such as The Queers, Screeching Weasel, The Descendants, Pinhead Gunpowder, Blink 182, Rally Fuckers or The Ramones
If you prefer something darker, go for The Links, Cowbell Soho, Semen Inferno, Discount, Hollywood Blondes, Swindle Parlor and Haskel.
Step 5. Put on skinny jeans
I am very "cool". Personalize them, tear them, whiten them with bleach, destroy them - use your imagination.
Step 6. Put on sweaters and hoodies
Wear them practically every day. Look for band designs, those with skeleton designs, striped or gingham, or in a single color. Buy what you like, and don't buy something just because you saw it wearing a "popular" punk. Zippered sweatshirts are fine, especially since you can leave the zipper open and show off your new punk shirt.
Step 7. Buy "cool" shirts
Choose punk colors, such as black, gray and dark blue. Wear blue and black checkered shirts, they look great! Also buy long-sleeved shirts and roll the sleeves up to the elbows.
Step 8. Get accessories
You will need bracelets, thin ones are fine, but try to go for black ones. If you find bracelets that aren't completely black, wear them with the logo or writing turned down.
Step 9. Wear the black and white Converse, low or high, always wear them
Skater shoes are also great.
Step 10. Wear a wool cap, black is better
It's not mandatory, you can be punk pop even without it, it's just a finishing touch to your look. For those with short hair, it is recommended.
Step 11. Get a proper hairstyle
If you have long hair, you can do it in a "mod" style, which consists of combing bangs all on one side, like the Beatles did. The "emo" style is strong … but DON'T EXAGGERATE! You can even take a tube of gel and make yourself a crest! Try the Mohawks, Fauxhaks, Liberty Spikes, punk crests.
Step 12. Put the right attitude into it
Confident of yourself but not vain. If people start calling you "weird", ignore them or just look at them as if they were talking fish. Don't be intimidated by others, live your dreams, hold on, even if it's not the end of the world if you can't do something. Decide with your head. Be aware of who you are and be proud of yourself. If you don't really know who you are, try not to be too proud. Pride is of the lions, and they are more afro-punk and saber-punk. You can also go back to step 2, or ask your parents or guardians who you are. If they can't answer you, try studying the attitude of someone you really like and would like to be like. Identities don't belong to people, Marx said, so if you take on someone else's identity, you're not stealing anything from anyone, and it's certainly better than being pop-punk.
Advice
- Make sure you know the band on your shirt, so if someone starts the conversation inspired by your shirt, you can have your say.
- Respect others, otherwise you risk being treated like garbage.
- Punk-Pop Bands! A little bit of punk, metal, and pop, great! Know your music. And if you like other music besides punk, it doesn't matter, be proud to be different.
- Don't make fun of others for their style, everyone is what they are, gothic, punk, emo, scene, prep, or whatever!
- When referring to band singers, call them by their real name, instead of using their art name (eg Ben Weasel = Ben Foster, Joe Queer = Joe King). It will give you credibility in the eyes of other punk pops.
- Use the skateboard. Learn some skateboarding tricks, but don't give yourself skater airs. If someone asks you if you are a skater, just answer: "Noo, I'm just taking a ride with my skate".
- Always dress your best.
- Remember, the longer you wait to find your identity, the greater the problems will be when, later in life, you will have to confront yourself. In the meantime, your punk pop pick will help you date - especially those who are trying to look "cool" by dating punk pop girls.
- Have fun. If you're not enjoying yourself, you shouldn't even be here. Be honest with yourself, go emo or goth, people will joke at you, but your peers won't.
- Leather is your best friend, preferably bomber jackets, but elegant jackets are beautiful too. Dye your jacket when it is worn out, but by then you may already be out of this phase.
- If you have to wear glasses, try those with a thick plastic frame (only if you want to be emo !!!).
- Find yourself an annoying avatar on Pop Punk Message Bored (Wednesday).
- Make sure you are an accepted member of Pop Punk Bored or you will be considered a braggart (see Read Hard, Dick Nothing).
Warnings
- Remember not to label yourself.
- NEVER call yourself emo if you're trying to be strictly pop punk. People may tease you and call you emo, although of course, that shouldn't affect who you are. Pop punk and emo are two separate things.
- The Hardcore Punks, 77 Punks and ESPECIALLY the Scum Punks, will ignore you, make fun of you, or even bully you. It is inevitable. If you go to one of their concerts, be prepared to be called a braggart. If you go into the pit or stand near him, they will push you in or crush you, or beat you. For your own safety, you better stay away from these guys, unless you want to be a "real" punk. Shopping malls are a safe place, as they rarely go there. BEWARE! For them, seeing you in a Green Day shirt is like, for a shark, smelling blood in water.
- If you're not a musician, don't post messages on a pop punk board.
