Well-groomed brows are a key part of looking good, but we often forget about it. If yours has a shape that you don't like or that doesn't follow current trends, there are several ways to reshape them. Before using tweezers and cosmetics at home or trusting the expert hands of a beautician, it is best to do some research to understand which solutions are best suited to your style (and your budget).
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Defining the Eyebrows
Step 1. Do some research and choose a photo that exactly portrays the shape you want to give your eyebrows
Just like when you decide to experiment with a new haircut, the safest option is to figure out exactly what you want. Having an image available will be particularly useful if you decide to go to a beautician, given that, although it is exhaustive in the explanations, its perception could still be very different from yours. So don't take any risks and take photographs with you so that the person cannot misinterpret your words.
If someone you know has very nice and well-groomed eyebrows, ask them which beauty center they went to. If she did it all herself, do some research on social networks and forums to find a good professional. Consider the method, location and services offered, based on the amount you are willing to spend
Step 2. Use an eyebrow comb to get a clearer view of what to do
Combing them up and towards the temples will make them appear thicker and more natural, also allowing you to understand how long they are and which areas need to be shaved in order to get the shape you want.
- Using eyebrow stencils will make it easier for you to understand which style you like best.
- Spray a small amount of hairspray on the brow comb, then comb it straight away. Once they are in place, it will be easier to shape them to get the shape you want.
Step 3. Wash your face and tools
Disinfect your hands with antibacterial soap, sanitize work tools with alcohol, and remove make-up from your face with a water-based cleanser. Hair removal carries a certain risk of infection, so it is best to be foresight by thoroughly cleaning the skin, surfaces and work tools.
Step 4. Remove unwanted hair with tweezers
They are perfect for plucking individual hairs that have grown in the wrong place or direction. Use a pair of tweezers with pointed ends and diagonally cut while looking in the mirror in a well-lit room to be able to see even the lightest or finest hairs. The oblique cut of the tips avoids inadvertently pinching the skin trying to pluck the hair directly at the root.
- Don't be in a hurry and start plucking the single unwanted hair from the lower arch of the eyebrows. If you proceed rashly, you could risk plucking out more hair than you should at once, making your brow shape even more uneven and causing unnecessary pain. If, despite the precautions, you overdo it, don't continue and give your hair at least a month to grow back.
- Try using the concealer to get a preview of what your brows will look like after you pluck out any hair you consider superfluous.
- Use tweezers after taking a shower or washing your face with hot water. The heat promotes the opening of the follicles and softens the hairs, so you will have less trouble pulling them out.
- If there are a lot of hairs to remove, you can use a different hair removal method, such as waxing, to be able to pull out many with a single gesture. Do some research to understand which method is best suited to your needs, considering that generally each technique has its pros and cons.
Step 5. Prick them with a pair of scissors
Shortening the hair is essential if you want your brows to go from an arched shape to a more linear one. Combined with a comb and tweezers, the scissors allow you to shape, adjust and thin them to achieve the desired look. The scissors can be used to trim out curved hair at the ends, which can give a messy look to the eyebrows. Find out which model is best suited to get the shape you like and proceed very slowly.
- Using tweezers and scissors can be boring, so don't bother with those details that are only visible when using a magnifying mirror or standing a few inches from a normal one. If you find it difficult to spot the details of the imperfection yourself, it means that it is not visible from a normal distance.
- Once trimmed, you will have to wait a long time for the hair to grow back, so only proceed if you feel extremely confident. If you overdo it, wait at least a month before trying again (this time with more caution).
Part 2 of 2: Shape, Make Up and Fix the Eyebrows
Step 1. Secure them with an invisible layer of wax
After you have shaped them with tweezers, you can keep the most unruly hair in shape using a suitable colorless wax product. The brows will immediately appear more linear and tidy, while remaining soft and not weighed down, and will retain the desired shape throughout the day.
Be careful, the wax we are talking about is very different from that of "waxing", which by the way is not the most suitable for shaving the eyebrows since it can cause pain and irritation, especially in the case of sensitive skin. If you do not want or feel unable to use tweezers, visit a beauty center to evaluate possible alternatives
Step 2. Apply an eyebrow gel over the wax
It is a transparent product that allows you to fix the hair in the desired position. The wax base allows the gel to adhere better. The eyebrows will appear perfectly delineated.
- Use the pipe cleaner, comb, or brow brush to evenly distribute the gel along the entire browbone, trying to prevent it from building up on the top or end. If you want, you can use a paper towel to wipe off the excess product. In this case, be careful not to ruffle the hair.
- Eyebrow gels usually have the shape of a mascara. Remove excess product from the brush before applying it.
- You can also find colored gels, some with the addition of fibers, which make the brows appear thicker and more homogeneous, as well as delineated.
- Among the most innovative products for the eyebrows are the "pomade", colored waxes to be applied with an angled brush. Just like hair waxes and gels, eyebrow waxes also serve to fix the look to make it last longer, but each product offers a slightly different result. Generally the gels make them stiff both to the eye and to the touch, while the new pomades allow you to obtain a much more natural result.
Step 3. Use a natural oil to make them more disciplined
You can use any oil that is good for the skin, such as coconut oil or just olive oil. Massage it into the hair with your fingertips in the direction you want, avoiding making circular movements so as not to risk curling them. Repeat the treatment every night before going to sleep.
In the morning, wash your face with warm water to remove oil residue. When finished, gently pat your brows with the towel. At both times, do what you can to keep the hair in the desired direction
Step 4. Use clear or tinted eyebrow mascara
The main function of these products is to give them volume and make them appear thicker and more uniform thanks to a pasty formula, which sometimes also contains very small fibers that have the purpose of masking any more sparse areas. The results are particularly good when using a mascara of a slightly lighter color than the natural one of the eyebrows.
Step 5. Use an eyebrow pencil to draw "hairs" where they are needed
Also in this case it is better to choose it in a slightly lighter tone than that of the natural eyebrows, otherwise the result will seem unnatural and the look will be hardened. In addition to making them more defined and even, they will naturally look fuller. Try to draw thin and realistic "hairs", adding them especially where they are missing. Some eyebrow pencils have a double tip, one to even out the color as described, the other in wax to give volume and thickness.
Do not use the pencil where there is no hair, otherwise the eyebrows will have a noticeable unnatural appearance
Step 6. Use a complete eyebrow shaping and makeup kit
Many cosmetic companies have designed real kits, which include stencils, eyeshadow, pencil etc. Generally each is suitable for a specific type of look, based on the natural eyebrow color and the result you want to achieve, so it's important to choose the one that's right for your needs.

Advice
- Ask your friends for advice or visit any forum or review site to choose a good beauty center. As often happens, relying on word of mouth is the best way to find a service that suits your needs.
- In addition to beauty centers, some hairdressers or spas also offer eyebrow care.
- There is a painless alternative to tweezers: cotton thread. It is an ancient technique, born in the East, which has only recently been known in Italy. Cotton thread is used to trap and pull hair from the follicle. Since this is not an easy method to use, it is best to rely on the hands of an expert. When performed by a trained person, this hair removal happens very quickly and guarantees a really precise result. It is a completely natural method, which does not involve the use of chemicals or substances that are harmful to the skin.
- Eyebrow hair may become damaged or no longer grow back following aggressive treatment or overly invasive hair removal, so it's important to seek advice from a competent person. If possible, find out about the opinions of previous customers.
- Eyebrows should be reshaped about once a month. In general, it is likely that after 3-6 weeks they will tend to lose shape. If you intend to go to a beautician, make sure the hair has reached a length that allows you to grab it to pluck it and shape it as you wish. In view of an important event or a holiday it is better to make an appointment in advance, because nowadays there are many people who love to take care of their look.
Warnings
- Do not try to use products or tools to style the hair on the eyebrows, otherwise you could damage them permanently.
- If you really want to use the razor to shave them, apply the shaving cream first to prevent ingrown hair and not irritate the skin.
- If you intend to use the razor instead of tweezers and scissors, disinfect it carefully and do not share it with other people, in order not to endanger the health of the skin (for example by triggering an infection).
- If you want to remove excess hair with waxing, avoid exposing yourself to the sun in the 24 hours before and after hair removal, as the skin may be more sensitive, compromising the result.
