Sundays are often dedicated to relaxation. This is the day of the week when you generally have the most free time. However, you run the risk of getting bored. Luckily, you can do several interesting activities to have a nice weekend. Sometimes you have to think creatively, others traditionally: you will see that you will not even know where boredom will be at home.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Activities to Do in Solitude
Step 1. Read a book
Read an interesting book that you particularly like. Grab a snack, relax on the sofa and enjoy the book. Some genres that may interest you include horror, comedy, adventure, and more. You may even discover something new as you read the book.
Step 2. Pamper yourself
Do you have no special plans or is it bad weather? You could light candles, brew your favorite beverage, and a foam-filled or oil-based bath. Soak in the tub and unplug from real life for a while.
- Go get yourself a manicure, pedicure, or any other relaxing treatment you can afford at your beautician.
- Get a new haircut, dye it, or try a professional massage.
Step 3. Vividly imprint your memories on paper or engage in an artistic activity
Take advantage of Sunday to give free rein to your creativity. Grab a musical instrument and practice for a few hours, draw, paint, sculpt, write or take photographs. Whatever means you use, get carried away completely. Inspiration is a great antidote to boredom.
- Write a few lines of a song that you can compose in a single Sunday.
- Start keeping a journal and every Sunday talk about what you did during the week. Spend an hour or so on writing. This will help you pass the time and cherish your memories.
- You could take a Sunday painting or pottery class. You will have the opportunity to paint ceramic objects or create real paintings with acrylic paint.
Step 4. Do household chores to the beat of music
Organize your bedroom or office, wash the dog, take care of the garden. Make it more fun by learning about new flowers to plant, but also consider new decorating ideas. At the end of the day, you will be satisfied because you will know that you have achieved something productive.
- It may not be the most fun way to spend Sunday, but it certainly is one of the most productive. It will allow you to start off on the right foot on Monday: if you have organized your home well, you can devote your attention to work or any other weekly commitment.
- Some like to do household chores, as it allows them to keep busy and give time to think.
Step 5. Read the Sunday newspaper
Curl up on the sofa with a steaming cup of tea and a good read. Nothing more than a compelling story will make time fly. Also, reading is a good way to relax.
- You could also watch an old movie on television or on the internet (you will find several proposals on YouTube). Why not: nothing prevents you from having a real movie marathon.
- If it's raining outside, reading a book is a great idea. Nothing is more relaxing than the sound of rain pattering on the window as you curl up under the blanket.
Step 6. Bake something in the oven
Hiding in the kitchen and baking a nice cake is another enjoyable Sunday activity.
- Try a new recipe or your own workhorse. Invite a friend to cook with you or offer a neighbor a piece of cake.
- Just the smell of the cakes and biscuits baking in the oven is enough to put you in a good mood.
- You could also do the weekly grocery shopping or cook midweek meals in advance. Do activities that will make your working days easier. For example, prepare a nice breakfast for Monday morning.
Method 2 of 3: Making Dynamic Experiences
Step 1. Try playing a sport, even if it's just for fun
Whether indoors or outdoors, you can keep yourself moving and do some physical activity to stay fit. You can call your friends for an unassuming match or join a team that organizes matches or training on Sunday.
- Join the gym and find out about the activities planned for Sunday. Alternatively, you can just go to the park and work out on your own. Investing in health and well-being is never a waste. Join a volleyball or soccer team that you play on Sunday - you'll probably find at least one.
- Think in an original way. Have you ever tried to fly a kite? And bowling? It is a fun activity for the whole family and quite cheap, not to mention that most bowling alleys are open on Sundays. If you live in a mild climate, consider a sport like tennis. Does it often snow in your area? Skiing, snowmobiling and ice skating can be fun.
- If the weather is nice, take a long walk or bike ride. Weather permitting, nothing will put you in a better mood than a Sunday walk. This day is dedicated to relaxation, so don't be in a hurry. Enjoy the landscapes and relieve stress.
Step 2. Plan a road trip
Invite a couple of friends and drive to an interesting destination close enough so that the commute takes a few hours. You can also travel by car or train, allowing for a trip of around two hours.
- Have lunch or eat an ice cream in the place you have decided to visit. Savor the beauty of being in a different environment, at least for a few hours.
- Visit the tourist points of your city. Sometimes you get carried away with your daily tasks, so you don't even consider how much the place you live has to offer.
- Get a map to circle your city and surroundings; all excursions you will do in this radius should take a maximum of two hours. Every Sunday, or almost every Sunday, you decide to visit a different place within this circle.
Step 3. Have a nice Sunday brunch
For many people, this typically American custom is becoming increasingly popular. You could try new dishes every week (if you want to keep calories in check, you can do it every 15 days instead). If you don't find many restaurants offering brunch, organize it in your home!
- Read your hometown newspaper or website to find places to have brunch. In larger cities, you obviously have more choice. Always try new places. You and your family can choose one in turn.
- If your city is not very big and does not offer this possibility, you can have a late breakfast in a cafe. It's another way to hang out with friends or family and eat something tasty.
Step 4. Do an activity related to literature, art or culture
You can see the latest movie released in theaters or choose a more sophisticated cultural experience (like a play or a symphony concert), so you'll learn something new while having fun.
- Visit a museum in your city, even if you've been there before. Maybe a new exhibition has been set up. You could also go to the zoo, a fair, or a neighborhood party (if one has been organized).
- Go to the bookstore or library. Maybe you can find a good book to read. These places are quiet, just like Sunday should be.
Method 3 of 3: Interacting with Others
Step 1. Play with your siblings
Play a game or just talk to a member of your family or maybe a few friends. If you don't have any brothers or sisters, talk to your parents about things you are all interested in or maybe have a few jokes together so that you can all have a fun and carefree time.
Step 2. Join a group that organizes Sunday activities
Wherever you live, there are many associations that offer good weekend entertainment (although in the larger cities you have more possibilities). Find something that interests you and participate. At that point, you no longer have to worry about what to do every Sunday.
- If you are religious, you may want to inquire about the groups that meet through the parish. Many communities organize afternoon activities, events and meetings, often advertised on church bulletin boards. You can also search for ideas in your city newspaper.
- If you can't find an interesting group, why not create your own? For example, you could start a book club to invite friends and neighbors to.
Step 3. Volunteer to help others
You can donate your free time to a hospital, food bank, soup kitchen, or other organization.
- You may be visiting an elderly relative who appears lonely. In this way, his Sunday will also be less flat.
- In your city surely there are voluntary associations or initiatives to clean the streets. You can also help an elderly or disabled person complete the most strenuous household chores. There are many ways to be generous. Get in touch with organizations, churches or the same municipality in your city to find ideas.
Step 4. Choose an activity to enjoy regularly with your family
You're likely busy during the week, so you can have Sunday programs for the whole family (with your kids and wife, if you're married, or with your parents).
- Organize a Sunday family dinner on a regular basis. Each week you may choose a different cuisine to try something new. You can also cook in rotation. Another idea is to have a picnic.
- Watch a sporting event on television with your family, or you can go to a football match or another sport together if they are organized nearby.
- Some families organize challenges, for example looking for a way to spend the weekend without spending money. What free activities come to your mind? These experiences can bring the family together and be a lot of fun.
Step 5. Try cards or a board game
It's fun to get together to play, but try to think in an original way. As for the cards, choose interesting and unusual decks. Also try a new board game.
- Don't just think about Monopoli and Cluedo, even if the great classics can still be fun. Search for new games online, at a toy store or mall and try some of them out. Ask your friends for ideas.
- Board games are also great for interacting with family members and creating a positive atmosphere. If your family is small, invite neighbors or friends.
Step 6. Have fun with your pets outdoors
You could also play football and encourage your four-legged friends to run with you. If your dog likes to grab the Frisbee, try the fetch game.
- If your dog enjoys grabbing tennis balls, you can also organize the fetch game this way. Some dogs like baseball (or at least the running part).
- Take him to a dog park and walk with your four-legged friend on a leash. You can also let it play while reading a book. Take a walk in your neighborhood. If you live in a seaside town, go to the beach.
Advice
- Try something new. A free day is like an empty canvas. Surprise yourself.
- Take it easy. If your week starts on Monday, use Sunday to relax and recharge.
- If you go to school on Monday, pack your backpack, clothes and snack so that everything will be ready in the morning. That way, you won't have to get stressed out immediately after waking up.
- Try to complete all commitments on Saturday, so you can fully relax on Sunday and you will feel less stressed on Mondays.
Warnings
- Don't go to bed late, especially if you have exams, tests, quizzes, or job interviews on Mondays. If you don't sleep well, your performance will suffer the next day.
- If you intend to travel by public transport on Sundays, remember that the frequency of transport is lower on weekends. If from Monday to Saturday a bus passes by the house every 15 minutes, on Sunday it will pass every half hour or once an hour. Some services are not available, and it may also be that the drivers' shift ends earlier.
