Would you like to try making gummy candies at home? With just a few ingredients, you can make custom candies with a texture and flavor reminiscent of the old days. This article shows you a very simple technique.
Ingrediants
- 30 g of gelatin (about three packs)
- 115 ml of cold water plus 170 ml of boiling water
- 400 g of sugar
- Food coloring of various colors
- Flavors (extracts)
- Extra sugar
- Seed oil
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Make the Gelatin
Step 1. Prepare the mold
To make square candies you need to use a loaf pan with a size of about 23x13 cm. Line it with foil and grease it with seed oil (peanut oil is fine too) to prevent the candies from sticking. If you are making candies of different flavors, make different molds.
- You can also use other types of molds with this recipe; the difference is only in the thickness of the finished candy. Use a large pot if you want thinner candies.
- You can also use molds.
Step 2. Soften the jelly
Put it in a saucepan with 115 ml of cold water. Stir it with a spoon and let it soften while you prepare the other ingredients.
Step 3. Make the syrup
In another pot, boil 170 ml of water. When it comes to a boil, add the sugar. Stir until completely dissolved. Simmer for 5 minutes.
Step 4. Combine the syrup with the gelatin
Pour the hot syrup into the saucepan with the gelatin. Put everything on the stove over high heat and boil for 15 minutes, stirring constantly.
Method 2 of 3: Flavor the Candies
Step 1. Divide the gelatin mixture equally into different bowls
Use a bowl for each candy flavor and color combination.
Step 2. Add food colors and flavorings
For each bowl, add 4 drops of food coloring and 3 g (or less) of flavoring. Add a little at a time until you get the desired flavor. The combinations shown below are great, choose a few or create a new one yourself:
- Strawberry flavor and red coloring;
- Taste of lime and green dye;
- Taste of licorice and purple dye;
- Blueberry flavor and blue dye;
- Peach flavor and orange dye.
Step 3. Pour the flavored and colored gelatine into molds or molds
Each color must go in a separate mold. Put the molds in the refrigerator overnight.
- If you want to make multi-layered candies with different flavors and colors, cool one layer at a time. When the first state is firm, after a couple of hours, pour the second layer and put everything back in the fridge.
- Don't try to cut the candies until they are completely cold and firm.
Method 3 of 3: Refine the Gummy Candies
Step 1. Lift the aluminum foil from the mold or molds
Grab it by the edges and lift it up to remove the entire layer of candy from each mold. Lay the paper on a hard surface, such as a cutting board.
Step 2. Cut the candy
Use a sharp knife, lightly oiled if necessary, to cut the candy into cubes. You can make smooth cubes or make fun shapes.
- You can use a pizza wheel for faster work.
- Use a small knife to create interesting and playful shapes. You need to oil it first to prevent the candy from sticking.
Step 3. Roll the candies in the sugar
Pour the sugar into a bowl and place one cube at a time to cover it completely. Place the cubes on the parchment paper. Let them rest for two days at room temperature. The finished candies will be crunchy with sugar on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.
Advice
- Store the candies in a sealed container at room temperature.
- Food colors are not needed in this recipe.
Warnings
- Check the mixture carefully; it takes little for the candies to burn.
- Do not let the children stay close to you when you make the candy, an accident can happen.
