Rich in antioxidants, calcium, fiber, potassium and omega-3 fatty acids, chia seeds can be used not only for cooking, but also for making tasty drinks! Since they can absorb a quantity of water that exceeds 10 times their weight, when immersed in a liquid they transform until they reach a gelatinous consistency. To get the most out of the benefits they offer, you can add them to your favorite drink or even use them to make a purifying drink or smoothie.

- 1 cup (250 ml) of your favorite liquid (juice, milk, coffee, etc.)

- 2 tablespoons (30 g) of chia seeds
- 1 1/2 cups (380 ml) of almond milk
- 1 cup (230 g) of blueberries
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of pure vanilla extract
- 1 large tablespoon (15 ml) of coconut oil or butter
- A pinch of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of raw honey
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Add Chia Seeds to a Drink
Step 1. Heat 1 cup (250ml) of water in the microwave for 30-60 seconds
Fill a microwave-safe container with water. Heat it for 30 to 60 seconds or until it is lukewarm. Alternatively, use warm tap water.
Step 2. Pour 3 tablespoons (45g) of chia seeds into the bowl and mix well
You can increase or decrease the dose of the seeds to your liking. Make sure you mix them well with the water.
Step 3. Cover the container, then refrigerate it overnight
Use a lid that closes it tightly or some cling film, securing it with a rubber band. Let it sit in the refrigerator overnight so the chia seeds have time to fully absorb the water and become gelatinous.
If you don't have time, let them soak for at least 10 minutes before adding them to the drink
Step 4. Mix 1 cup (250ml) of your favorite liquid with chia seed water
The next morning, take the bowl out of the refrigerator and remove the lid. Pour the chia seeds and water into a larger container if needed. Add 1 cup (250ml) of your favorite drink (you can use whatever you want: cold coffee, pomegranate juice, almond milk…) to the chia seed water and mix well. At this point, serve it as well!
Method 2 of 3: Prepare Chia Seed Cleansing Water
Step 1. Take a container with a lid and fill it with 350ml of water
The container must have a lid, as you will need to shake the drink to mix the chia seeds and water. A glass jar will work for this procedure, but you could also use a plastic bottle or container, and then pour the drink into a cup or glass.
If desired, still water can be substituted for coconut water
Step 2. Add 1 tablespoon (15g) of chia seeds to the container and replace the lid
Chia seeds will absorb water and swell substantially. You can use larger or smaller quantities of seeds depending on your preferences. Make sure you close the lid tightly to prevent the bowl from leaking.
Step 3. Shake the container, then let it sit for 10 minutes
Shake it well to distribute the chia seeds. Let them soak for 10 minutes to absorb the water.
Step 4. Pour lime juice and agave syrup into the container
Remove the cap from the container. Using a palm, roll a file across the counter to break up the sections inside it. Cut it in half and squeeze both sides into a jar. Then, if you wish, add 1 ml of agave syrup, honey or another sweetener.
Step 5. Shake the container and serve the drink
Make sure you put the lid back in place before shaking the container. Since chia seeds will take on a gelatinous texture, it may take some getting used to.
Method 3 of 3: Make a Blueberry and Chia Seed Smoothie
Step 1. Pour the chia seeds and almond milk into a jar or cup and mix
Use 2 tablespoons (30 g) of chia seeds and ½ cup (125 ml) of almond milk. Make sure you mix the ingredients well so the chia seeds can absorb the almond milk.
Step 2. Let the drink sit for 10 minutes, or keep it in the fridge overnight
If you're in a hurry, let it sit for just 10 minutes to allow the chia seeds to absorb the almond milk. If you have more time, you can close the container with an airtight lid and store it in the refrigerator, where it can be left for up to 4 days.
Step 3. Blend the almond milk, blueberries, vanilla extract, coconut butter and cinnamon
Pour 1 cup (250 ml) of almond milk, 1 cup (230 g) of blueberries, 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of pure vanilla extract, 1 large tablespoon (15 ml) of coconut oil or butter and a pinch of cinnamon in the jug of a blender. Blend the ingredients well.
If desired, these ingredients can be replaced with others. Simply incorporate the chia seed and almond milk blend into your favorite smoothie
Step 4. Add the chia seeds and almond milk, then blend
Pour the seeds and milk into the blender jar with the help of a spatula or spoon. Blend them until you get a smooth and homogeneous drink.
Step 5. Sweeten the drink using honey and serve
If you wish, you can add 1 tablespoon (15 g) of raw honey. Stir well with a spoon, or blend the drink again.
