Steps
Method 1 of 4: Classic Filled Omelette
Step 1. Prepare the ingredients
Eggs cook quickly, so it's best to pick and cut the rest of the ingredients before cooking. First, take the amount of eggs you need, usually 2-4 are needed for a regular omelette. Then cut the "stuffing" ingredients into cubes or grate some cheese.
-
Classic additional ingredients include onions, ham, peppers, green onions, spinach, sausage, olives, sliced tomatoes, and mushrooms. You can use just some or all of them, the choice is yours.
-
You can use cheddar, Swiss, goat cheese, feta, etc. - depending on your taste.
Step 2. Break the eggs
Put them in the bowl, one at a time. After this, wash your hands thoroughly to avoid salmonella poisoning.
Step 3. Beat the eggs until the whites and yolks are completely combined
At this point you can add salt and pepper as well as any herbs and spices of your choice.
Step 4. Start cooking the eggs
Heat some butter in a skillet over medium heat. Pour the mixture by distributing it with a spatula. Add some milk or water to make the eggs fluffier and fluffier.
Step 5. Add the other ingredients
When the eggs are firm in the lower part, but still a little liquid in the upper part, you can put all the other ingredients except the cheese. Continue cooking until the eggs form bubbles.
Step 6. Flip the omelette
Turn it over to the other side with a spatula. Cook for another minute or so, until there is no more liquid left.
Step 7. Add the cheese and fold the omelet
Sprinkle the cheese in the center and close it in half with the spatula. Pour on the table.
Step 8. Dust the omelette with more cheese
Method 2 of 4: French Herb Omelette
Step 1. Heat a knob of butter in a small pan
Use medium-high heat. Wait for the butter to melt completely and make sure the pan is very hot.
-
Do not use a non-stick pan for this preparation. The very high temperature could ruin the coating.
-
This technique is suitable for cooking 2 eggs, but you can add a third if you are very hungry.
Step 2. Beat the eggs and season
While the butter is melting, put 2-3 eggs in a bowl and beat them with a whisk until the egg whites and yolks are mixed well. If you add more eggs, the omelette will be too thick for this technique, as they should spread fairly liquid in the pan. Add the salt and pepper, chopped chives, oregano, dill, and any herbs you have decided to use. Half a teaspoon of each will be more than enough.
Step 3. Pour the mixture into the pan, first make sure it is very hot:
the butter should sizzle. As soon as the eggs touch the pan, they will begin to boil and cook. Stay close because the omelette will be ready in no time. Cook the first side for 30 seconds.
Step 4. Flip the omelette
Lift the pan and with a flick of the wrist, flip the omelette over to the other side. Be careful not to drop it, make a controlled movement.
- It takes some practice for this technique. There must be enough butter for the omelette to slide on the surface and turn.
- If you'd rather avoid throwing it in the air, use a spatula.
Step 5. Put on the plates
Once the second side is cooked (20 seconds), slide the omelet onto a plate and use the edge of the pot to fold it in half. This technique allows you to quickly and easily prepare a tasty and perfectly cooked omelette.
Method 3 of 4: Steamed Omelette
Step 1. Mix the ingredients
Beat the eggs and add carrots, onions, sesame oil, salt and pepper. Stir until everything is combined.
Step 2. Pour the mixture into the steamer basket
If you have a bamboo one, it's perfect for your omelette. If you don't have a suitable basket, you can use two pots (a large one that can hold the small one). Fill the large pot with a few inches of water and insert the small pot. Put everything on the stove, over medium heat. Pour the eggs into the small saucepan and close with the lid.
Step 3. Cook the eggs until they solidify
It will take about 10 minutes for the steam to finish. If you shake the basket, the eggs move slightly, but they shouldn't feel liquid.
Step 4. Remove the omelette from the heat and cut it into slices
Serve it right away.
Method 4 of 4: Baked Omelette
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 180 ° C
Make sure it's hot before cooking the omelette.
Step 2. Mix the ingredients
Beat the eggs in a bowl, add the milk, cheese, ham. Parsley, salt and pepper.
Step 3. Pour the mixture into a greased pan
Baked eggs tend to stick together, so it's best to use butter or cooking oil. Pour the mixture into the pan.
Step 4. Bake
Place the pan in the oven and wait for the top of the omelet to solidify; it will take about 45 minutes. When you move the pan, the omelette will move a little, but it shouldn't be runny.
Step 5. Remove the omelette from the oven, cut it into wedges for the diners
This preparation is excellent with toast and baked scones.
Advice
- All the stuffing ingredients should be pre-cooked, especially the meat.
- Don't be afraid to experiment with extravagant combinations (pineapple, shrimp and avocado); like pizza, omelette also offers an infinite range of customizations. Let your imagination run wild and use all the ingredients you like best.
- To obtain the maximum softness of the eggs, beat the yolk and egg white separately and combine them only at the time of cooking.
- Prepare all the ingredients before proceeding with cooking the eggs. The cooking time of an omelette is very short; so, make sure you have already cut the vegetables, cold cuts, meat and cheese before you start cooking the eggs.
- For a firmer omelette, do not add milk. Cook it in a large skillet to be ready in no time.
- Instead of milk, you can try adding a tablespoon or two of sour cream.
- You can use pre-grated cheese.
