In the Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen video game (as well as in the original Pokémon Red and Blue versions) the city of Saffron City is large and bustling where the gym leader is Sabrina who specializes in the use of "psychic" type Pokémon. The reasons why it is worth visiting the city of Saffron City are numerous: it houses the sixth gym of Kanto, the Dojo Karate and the headquarters of Silph S.p. A. and so on. Whether you're a novice looking to get to town for the first time or a Pokémon expert just wanting to refresh your memory, fear not, getting to Saffron City is very simple.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Getting the Tea
Step 1. Head to the city of Celadon City
The first step to take in order to reach Saffron City is to return to Celadon City. Remember that this is the city where the Mall and the fourth Kanto gym run by Erica are located: specializing in "grass" type Pokémon. Celadon City is located exactly west of Saffron City and the two cities are connected by "Route 7".
If there is a Pokémon in your team that knows the "Fly" move (HM02), you can reach Celadon City in a very simple way: by flying. Otherwise, you will have to reach it from the city of Fuchsia City, via the "Cycle Path" (ie "Route 17"), or from the city of Lavandonia, via the "Underground Road"
Step 2. Enter the building called "Villazzurra"
Once you reach the city of Azzurropoli, visit the famous "Villazzurra". This is a building located west of the "Pokémon Center", where you most likely obtained a specimen of the Pokémon Eevee at the beginning of the game.
Step 3. Talk to the elderly lady
On the first floor of "Villazzurra" you should meet an elderly woman sitting at a table placed in the upper left part of the room with respect to the entrance; talk to her.
Step 4. Have tea
The old lady should offer you hot tea. Congratulations, you have taken the first step in reaching Saffron City.
Since this is probably your first time accessing "Villazzurra", you can spend some time exploring the second floor of the building, where you can get valuable information about Erica: the Saffron City Gym Leader. This is a mandatory step if you intend to tackle the secondary mission related to your "Pokévip"
Part 2 of 3: Reaching Saffron City
Step 1. Head east to "Route 7"
Once you have the tea, you can leave the city of Celadon by using "Route 7" located to the east (on the right side of the screen). You don't need to heal your team's injured Pokémon in the "Pokémon Center" in Celadon City, as you won't encounter any opposing trainers along the way.
Step 2. Enter the access station leading to Saffron City
"Path 7" is very short and is free of threats when compared to other paths. The only thing you need to do to reach the access to Saffron City is to walk south and then head east (down and then to the right of the screen). Jump or walk on the ledge at the base of the entrance to the access station, then cross the threshold.
The only way to face a fight along "Path 7" is to walk through the tall grass area that is at the top of the path you have to take; however, it is not a necessary step to reach Saffron City
Step 3. Talk to the police officer
Inside the access station (also known as "Coach Gate") you will see a police officer. At another time the agent would have blocked you from entering Saffron City, but now you can approach him and talk to him without any problems. He should ask you for tea and calmly start drinking it. At the end of the break, it should allow you to leave the access station and enter the city without any problems.
Congratulations, by exiting the right side of the building you will finally arrive in Saffron City
Part 3 of 3: Return to Saffron City Afterwards
Step 1. Fly to Saffron City
After discovering the city for the first time, the easiest way to return to it in the future is to use the move "Fly" (HM02). All you need is to have a Pokémon that knows this move within your team, so you can reach Saffron City virtually instantly from anywhere in the Kanto region.
To fly to Saffron City, select a "Flying" type Pokémon that already knows the "Fly" move, then choose Saffron City as your destination on the map. Saffron City is the city located in the center of the intersection on the right side of the map
Step 2. Walk to Saffron City
If you don't have a Pokémon that can fly or if you want to explore the game world more, you can decide to walk to Saffron City. In this case you can choose from many different streets as Saffron City is located in the center of an area bounded by four other cities. Below, you will find the instructions to reach Saffron City from any direction:
- From the North: Depart from the city of "Celestopoli", then continue south on "Route 5". Note that the end of the "Underground Path" which is to the north leads right to "Route 5".
- From the south: depart from the town of "Aranciopoli", then continue north through the winding "Route 6". Note that the south end of the "Underground Path" leads to "Route 6".
- From the east: depart from the town of "Lavandonia", then head west on "Route 8". Note that the end of the "Underground Path" which is to the east leads exactly to "Route 8".
- From the West: Use "Route 7" as described in the previous section of the article.
Step 3. Reach Saffron City by bike
If you don't have a Pokémon that can fly and you want to get to Saffron City very quickly, it's very likely that the most viable option available to you is to use a bicycle. With this means of transport you can choose any of the routes described in the previous step, with the difference that you will be able to travel them much faster than on foot.
