There is no easy way to block adult websites on an iPad, but there are alternative methods and browsers that can help you protect children who use this device.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Disable Safari and Use an Alternate Browser
Step 1. Press the Settings icon on your iPad's Home screen
Step 2. Press General and then Restrictions
Step 3. Click on Enable Restrictions
Step 4. Enter a four-digit password to enable and disable restrictions by pressing the numbers on the screen
You will be prompted to confirm your password.
Step 5. Move the switch next to Safari to Off to disable the iPad's default browser
The Safari app will be hidden from now on.
Step 6. Press the App Store icon on your iPad Home screen and search for a "safe browser"
You will find many applications at your disposal to block adult content and which allow the exclusion of specific sites. Browser for Kids for example is a great app that offers paid and free versions.
Method 2 of 2: Blocking Sites via Computer
Step 1. Visit www.opendns.com/home-solutions and click the Get Started button under Parental Controls
Step 2. Sign up for the free OpenDNS Home service by pressing OpenDNS Home and clicking the Sign up now button
Step 3. Enter your contact information and follow the instructions to prevent specific sites from being loaded on devices connected to your home network
Advice
You can re-allow access to applications by returning to the Restrictions section of the Settings and entering your password
Warnings
- Block access to the App Store on your iPad to prevent your kids from installing a new browser without restrictions.
- Blocking sites via computer with OpenDNS does not allow you to block those sites even when the iPad is browsing in 3G mode. Turn off this type of data traffic when children use your iPad.
- The restrictions you have created on your home network will not work when the iPad is connected to another network.
