Although cars with automatic transmission are also becoming more popular in Italy, most motorists still choose manual transmission. In these machines the clutch can be fixed by cable or by a hydraulic system with a reservoir that contains the fluid. If your car has a hydraulic clutch that feels very "hard" to you, here's how to check the fluid level.
Steps
Step 1. Open the hood of the car
To proceed with the checks you should park on a level surface and the engine must be cold.
Step 2. Look for the clutch fluid reservoir
In most vehicles fitted with a hydraulic system, the reservoir is located near the master cylinder, behind the engine block. You recognize it from the brake reservoir because it is smaller. However, if in doubt, check the maintenance manual.
Step 3. Check the liquid level
The tank should be filled to the brim or the liquid should be between two clearly visible minimum and maximum notches, this depends on the car model. On most modern cars, the tank is constructed of translucent plastic, while on older models you can still find it in metal. In that case you will need to open it to check the fluid level.
Step 4. Add the liquid
Very carefully make a top up by immediately cleaning any spills and spills from the tank opening.
Hydraulic clutches use the same brake fluid. Choose one with the DOT features recommended in your car's maintenance manual
Step 5. Put the fuel cap back on and close the hood
Make sure the gasket on the cap is secure.
