Taking care of yourself might seem like a full-time job. Yet neglecting that "job" could harm your trust, your relationships and your peace of mind. It is important to take care of yourself for a happier and healthier life, and also to be part of the community.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Take Care of Your Mental and Emotional Wellbeing
Step 1. Develop a positive attitude
Taking care of yourself also means doing it from an inner point of view. If you are always negative, consider asking for help to change your approach, through therapy, self-help manuals, or by spending time with more positive people (the latter option is very important).
Step 2. Be steadfast
Stand up tactfully, without being aggressive. Being diplomatic is a good way to gain stability.
Step 3. Educate yourself
School and university are important, but it is also important to want to "learn for life". Try to keep learning by reading, studying others, doing things differently, and being open to advice. Be ready to continue learning, at any age.
Step 4. Seek help if you are having trouble recovering from depression or if you can't think straight
Mental disorders are common, but there are some great specific treatments. Don't suffer in silence - seeking outside help you will always find a way to improve your life and be less troubled by everyday events. Depression, anxiety, and personality disorders can all be managed, so do yourself a favor and ask for the help you need.
- Dyslexia, dyscalcolia and other cognitive or information processing disorders are extremely common, however they are very unsettling if left undiagnosed. Seek help from a specialist doctor.
- Don't underestimate the power of dialogue. Talking to people you trust can greatly change your perception of yourself and your place in the world.
Part 2 of 4: Take care of your physical well-being
Step 1. Try to get enough sleep
Lack of sleep ages and reduces mental faculties. Sleep restores energy, repairs the body and improves concentration. Proper rest can also help maintain proper body weight.
Step 2. Eat healthy food such as fruits and vegetables
If you eat healthy food, your body will be healthy. If you eat junk food, your body will be like junk. If you have trouble defining a good diet, ask your nutritionist for advice.
Step 3. Exercise regularly
Whether it's a daily walk with the dog around the block or a workout at the gym, try to get active every day. Take the stairs instead of taking the elevator, get off the bus a few stops earlier and walk the last leg to work or take a walk during your lunch break. Choose a way to move and help keep you toned and fit.
Choose a time of day to do exercises, such as cardio-fitness (walking, kickboxing), yoga, or using weights to train your muscles
Part 3 of 4: Building a Social Support Network
Step 1. Be nice to others
Be kind to those who are different from you. It can be challenging at times, when you disagree or have things in common with each other, but see it as a way to keep an open mind. Even if you don't want to make intimate friends with some people, you may just be creating a bond and a network of people from different walks of life and backgrounds. This can only help.
- Remember that everyone has a bad time in life. A kind word can make a difference and can help you feel alive in a more sensible world. Be the change you wish to see in the world.
- Understand that badness is often a projection of one's suffering. Even if someone is openly mean to you, or pushes you away, always try to be nice to them. Not only will you have many friends this way, but you will keep your dignity.
Step 2. Identify the things you love to do in your spare time
Look for a group of people who share your interest and spend time with them. Get to know them better by having coffee together or inviting them for a pizza, etc. Try to become friends with them and spend time together.
We can't be friends with everyone. There will be no sparks with everyone, it is normal that this is the case. Forget those you have no affinity with and stay with those you really have an affinity with
Step 3. Return favors
When someone helps you, keeps their promises, and works hard to do something for you, acknowledge their kindness and generosity. Thank you and offer to always be available for her / him. When things go wrong for others, return the favor by making yourself available.
Part 4 of 4: Take Care of Your Personal Hygiene
Step 1. Be clean
Wash regularly.
Step 2. Check and polish
Always comb your hair and brush your teeth regularly. Keep your nails clean and trimmed.
Step 3. Always hydrate your body
Moisturize your legs, feet, arms and hands regularly, especially if they are dry. You don't necessarily have to spend a fortune; quality creams can be cheap or homemade.
Step 4. Wear clothes that make you feel your best
Choose a series of combinations that make you feel comfortable and wear them. If you live in places where there are seasonal changes, divide the clothing according to the season. Keeping a wardrobe with fewer but better quality clothes will make you feel better and save you the time spent deciding what to wear each day.
-
Drink lots of water. It will help keep your skin and body hydrated. It also serves to expel toxins from the body and to be concentrated. Drink enough so that your urine is light in color.
Advice
- Organized. It is essential to face life successfully. It means, among other things, not living in a messy environment - clean up regularly. Make your bed every day; it's a minimal thing but it makes a difference!
- Aim to be comfortable with yourself. People tend to be happier if they don't conform to some ideal or someone else's expectations.
- Hobbies are good for the soul, heart and mind. Find many and actively participate in some.
Warnings
- Excessive amounts of calorie food may possibly make you feel good instantly, but it will make you gain weight. Try to have a balanced diet and see what triggers the craving for junk food, such as being tired, stressed, or short of money. Look for alternatives, such as pursuing a hobby, eating a carrot, or walking the dog.
- Stay away from alcohol, cigarettes and drugs. Drink in moderation and always be aware of the choices you make. Be aware of the impacts on your health before abusing any substance.
