When the well submersible pump stops working, who to call? You can go to a well-digging company, but it will cost a lot of money. With the system illustrated in this article, you only need a little muscle or even better with a vehicle to further facilitate recovery. Only installations made with a hose are considered in this article.
Steps
Step 1. Disconnect the power supply to the pump
Even if it is a low voltage power supply, the power must be disconnected to avoid accidental dry start of the pump.
Step 2. Mount a manual winch so that the pump can be raised a certain distance
Make sure all the material is strong and in good condition; a mistake could render the pump inoperable or worse yet it could cost you a limb or life.
Step 3. Hook the winch to the flange that connects the hose to the lung or pressure tank
Step 4. Pull on the winch until a few meters of hose have come out of the well
Step 5. Overlap two 5 x 15 cm wooden boards by placing a piece of cardboard in the middle and tighten everything with a couple of clamps. With a drill and a wood bit, drill a hole in the middle of this sandwich of the same external diameter as the pump tube, in order to obtain a half-moon hole on each board. Then make at least 4 holes on the boards to be able to tighten them like a "vice" on the tube.
Step 6. With nuts and bolts in the holes you just drilled, tighten the vise on the hose just outside the well
Step 7. Unhook the winch cable from the pump flange
Step 8. At this point you can carry out the work in several ways:
- With the relay system:
- Make another vice like the previous one, but this time making two additional holes on each board, passing a rope through it and making a figure eight at each end to obtain a loop of rope.
- This ring must be attached to the winch and the pump must be extracted for a few more meters.
- Attach the other vise, remove the upper one, and repeat all this until you take out the pump.
- With the towing system:
- Place a 200-liter keg near the well on the side where there is the most free space. If possible, secure the shaft near the well with a few turns of the cord.
- Hook the pump flange onto the towbar of a car or van or their rear bumper.
- Slowly move the vehicle forward until the pump comes out of the well. If the hose begins to heat up due to friction on the barrel, slow down the vehicle or pour some soapy water on the barrel to lubricate.
- With the brute force system:
Two muscular people take turns pulling the tube. Once you have taken this route, there is no way to rest until the pump comes out of the well, although the work becomes easier and easier as you approach the finish line
Step 9. To prevent dust or other contaminants from falling into the well, it should be covered with something; for example you could use old clean blankets
Likewise, before submerging the pump back into the well, it should be disinfected along with the hose and electrical cables.
